Transfer Case Position Switch
Transfer Case Position Switch
My 2018 PW is regularly getting the "4wd shift in progress" message. My assumption is the transfer case position switch. Unfortunately, I can't see how to operate the catch on the wiring harness. Anyone know a trick for releasing the harness when the catch side is opposite of what can be seen?

You could also try to get a small dental hook tool under the face of the connector and pry out gently.
If you break the connector, you can find a replacement by searching for a "Toyota ignition coil connector" on Amazon or Ebay.
Toyota part# 90919-02216 or 90919-02205.
Good luck!

Re: Transfer Case Position Switch
I also find with these connectors that if I apply some prying pressure with a broad flat head screwdriver on the face of the connector while I press the latch and pull at the same time with the other hand, they come off without damage. This allows the latch pressing hand to concentrate on pressing the latch while the screwdriver assists with overcoming the grit and applying pressure in the right direction to push the connector off. Just be real careful so to don't pull a wire or crack the connector.

Re: Transfer Case Position Switch
This is exactly what I needed. I knew I had to apply pressure to release the latch, but I was pushing on the lower section.
I'll get under the truck later today and see if I can get it off.

Re: Transfer Case Position Switch
Is this switch adjustable? Mine has been doing this since a trans rebuild. I kind of figured there was some adjustability, but maybe it's just faulty
