What's up everyone? Just bought my dream truck yesterday, 2005 Power Wagon. It's always a bit of a hassle dealing with a dealer, and this was no exception. Regardless, it's going to be worth my little investment. It has 182k on it and it's a bit rough but that's built-in character. Going to be starting on the maintenance today and the weekend and try to knock out what I can. So I've come here for assistance/advice in getting things done. I'm electronically deficient, yet can be instructed easily. I'm mechanically inclined to a level of it being easier to say what I haven't done: rebuild an engine/tranny/xfer case/rear end. I can replace them but that's it. I have an obdII reader and can otherwise diagnose things pretty well on my own logically.

Thank you all for being here and sharing your knowledge to others.

Hey, this is my second time posting here and still not seeing my first post. Maybe not "approved" yet so it'll be different than the first.

Just bought a 2005 SLT PW. Needs some work and had some minor issues which I'll do slowly and when I have time and money. Right now I'm just doing all the checks and fluid changes that can be done because I have no history on this truck. So I'll be researching and asking questions as I go along.

Personally: I'm 53, married, 4 children, 4 cats, two dogs. I'm an avid hunter and somewhat of an outdoorsman. It's been MANY years since I've owned a 4wd. Owned 3 of them selling my last one the day before I left for basic training. I am mechanically inclined and can rebuild things but that doesn't mean I know all the terminology. Electronically challenged which is a real bummer. I'm an experimental Machinist at Learjet.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Welcome to the forum.

Make sure your lockers and sway bar disconnect work. Some parts you can no longer get at the dealer.

Thanks, RustyPW. I'll be checking all that out soon. I've read about the problems and the Abel bypass units. We'll just have to see what it all looks like inside.

Thanks, FirerescuePW. Yeah, I had an old 76 d200 full-time 4wd and I loved it. In fact it was my first truck let alone first 4wd. Bought it for $300 in 89. Guy said tranny was out, it was a plow truck. I started it up and it wouldn't go into any gear. Asked him to give me some time looking it over, and he went back to his office. I pulled the dipstick and it was DRY. I talked him down from $500 to $300 and he agreed. He was livid when I got right in it and drove it home. While we were getting the title notarized, my buddy went to the parts store and bought the ATF and put it in. I beeped and drive off. Have been hooked ever since. My buddy had the 79 PW 318 auto.
