New to me 14’

Post by HvacWagon » Fri Nov 09, 2018 10:39 pm

Made the switch recently from Chevy to Ram. Gotta say I’m really lovin* the power Wagon. I’ve visited the site before and couldn’t find a better forum around for info. Hopefully get to contribute and pick some brains.

I made the same switch years ago with the diesel then over to the PW. Chevy makes a nice truck but they lost me with the IFS on 4wd trucks at the 3/4 and above class. Not to mention pricing is just insane as well. The only thing they have to even come close to now is the ZR2 and I’d just get a rubicon at that point. Enjoy your PW and welcome to the forum.

I had an 04 2500hd. Took its licks, but the pricing for a newer model had me searching. Wish I had known about the tradesmen model wagon. Seems like every week I have something electrical wrong with the PW.
Is that common for the 14 models?

I wouldn't say common, but there has definitely been word on the net about a select few with some cery crazy electrical issues.

The Power Distribution Center which is in almost all Chrysler vehicles is a known problem. Dunno if it could be your problem, but reading online, when there is a problem with it, all kinds of crazy stuff happens. Jalopnik has an article about it. And a quick google search reveals we've got them in our trucks and issues do arise. Especially if they get wet.

Welcome to the Group!

Glad you got the 2014! It's the latest gen PW with the fewest Nannies...

No electrical issues with my '14 Laramie so far.
hopefully the electrical issues aren't the reason the previous owner traded...

I drive a GMC every now and then when my dad let's me, really light but throws me I guess I have gotten used to driving a 3/4-ton. I did looked at a GM truck before but it's that IFS and price point like on all other 1/2-tons that threw me and besides straight axles are more old school and robust so I went with a 2500 instead 😁
I waited and checked out every info I can find as well believing any early version of a ground up redesign or refresh will show issues that need addressed and so far the late model truck I drive has only been taken to the dealer just 2x and only because of recalls.
