Hi all,

I've been a long time lurker 3+ years. Tried a couple times to register and never had any luck getting the registration email to go through. That I'd try hitting resend and it finally worked today.

I'm from good ol' flat Saskatchewan Canada, haven't yet bought a Power Wagon but it's definitely my next vehicle, really eyeing up that 2017.

Anyways thanks for the good and interesting reads this past little while ;)

Hey phantom. Good ole flat and windy sask eh. Was +33 last week and -3 this week. (That's like 90something °F to like 28is° for the Americans lol). Max air conditioning to scraping ice and snow off the windows in a couple days. Welcome to the forum.

We all know that the current PW payload rating #s are ridiculously low, but 1135 lb.s for a 3/4 ton truck.? :wtf:
For comparison, my last 3 truck's payload ratings ...
1992 FORD Ranger STX Supercab 4X4- 1200 lb.s
1996 Dodge Dakota ClubCab 4X4- 1800 lb.s
2005 Power Wagon crew- 2210 lb.s

I do agree totally with MikeKey.
But note that the 2500 has 3 GVWR for some reason. Ours at 8650, 9000lbs and 10,000lbs. Technically we all have the same frame and axles. But the GVWR is assigned based on weakest point in suspension. (assuming)

Now, I discovered something really interesting when I had my 1500 about Ford's axle's and Ram's axles and the GVWR's and axle ratings. Can't speak to F250's.

What I noticed is the FAWR and RAWR on my Ram 1500 was 3900lbs front and rear. That's 7800lbs of rating. And 1000lbs over the GVWR at 6800lbs. Which meant there was nearly 1000lbs of safety margin.

What I noticed on several F150's looking at door stickers is that while having highest payload in the segment, the GVWR and Axle ratings only had 200lbs of difference between them. I think the F150 was rated at 7200 GVWR or so, can't recall now. But what I did notice was the stark difference. Ford ran it's payload and axle ratings right up to GVWR. With zero room for overloading the vehicle.

You can add up our axle and tire ratings and see how much those are designed to carry. Then it's just a matter of figuring what are the weak points that FCA determined required the smaller GVWR.

When it comes to a heavy payload, Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Ford border lines the safety margins for advertising. Anyone surprised? Does anyone drive an ecoboost at 51mph with the wind at their backs every day to get anything near the advertised mileage? I'll take a safety margin for the odd time I may miscalculate a load by 300lbs so I can still get home safely.

To clarify my statement on room to overload, that is meant to point out that most people do in fact routinely overload their trucks. Most people are completely unaware of payload and the fact that tongue weight contributes. Once you hook up a trailer and some passengers you may already be overloaded. And those who do figure out payload and go, hey "Ford has the highest" probably are twice as likely to overload the Ford.

And you are right about their Advertising. This is a company that admitted they remove bumpers and spare tires and things to increase those numbers in their calculations.

Greetings all !!. We joined the Power Wagon Registry in 11/15/15 and have been reading the various power wagon posts and threads since then. Took some time to get registered for the Forum. We own a 2005 Power Wagon # 0666, live in Oregon in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, and ( I) have always "dreamt" of owning a '05 Power Wagon. As you all know, '05 was the year Dodge chose to "re-introduce" the Power Wagon Brand and included "everything" needed for comfort, luxury, off road use and hauling that one can ask for. We are thrilled with our truck !!! Just added some 35 x 12.5 x 17 Open Country AT 2 Extremes and McQuay Norris Extreme Ball joints. Will post some pictures as soon as we figure out how !! .

Just a quick question that maybe I missed reading in the FAQ, but at what point are posts no longer needed to be read by an admin and just posted to the forums?

Hey everyone, new here from Wyoming. Been wishing for a PW for awhile now and just pulled the trigger on a '16 Laramie. Ordered it so got a couple must have gadgets, extra alternator and camera and so on. First mod will pry have to be the locker bypass, so will be looking into that before too long. Can't wait to learn stuff and get rolling!
