Swing away tire/crap holder

Post by chrisjameswagner » Fri Mar 29, 2013 2:55 pm

Any thoughts or experience with something like these? Thinking this could be a good way to carry extra fuel, the high-lift, etc. without having to go up to the roof rack 12 feet up. Appreciate any thoughts - thanks.

That does look good, however that tire is right in the way of your rear view mirror :wtf:

HOWEVER, looking at this thing and other versions, it would be very simple to make. After I do my front bumper, headache rack, and nurf bars I might look at doing some type of tire carrier.

If you had access to a pipe bender then you would be laughing :D

They don't look to difficult to fab up

I've always thought that a custom bed/roof-top-tent/ladder rack/roll cage style rack with ability to hold 2 spare tires flat (one in front of the other), directly under the tent yet even with the roof line for unobstructed vision would be a cool set-up, then you would have the entire bed free & could even carry a 3rd spare if needed on a tire gate.

I have more ideas than i have money !!!

I ran the Hitch Gate Tire Rack when I was running 34's and 35's. It was great for keeping the Spare and Jack handy. It was also nice to pull the pin and loosen the wedge and it was off the truck if I had to haul something long in the box. Build quality was great. The only things I change on it, was wire it for a licence plate light and stand the jack upright. Because mine was an early model I had to use a 2" spacer on the mount to bolt the tire on.(I think newer models had an adjustable mount)
