Anyone tried any of these tires?

Post by ramv » Tue Mar 05, 2024 4:22 pm

Anyone tried any of these three? The Toyo RT Trail is new, as is the Falkan RT. I was going to get the Maxxis then these two options popped up, in my size and weight rating. Unfortunately, I don't use my truck the way it should be used very often anymore and I probably should just get the Wildpeak AT3s (had these on a dually we recently sold, they were great tires) or the new AT4. That being said, I want something that looks more aggressive. Currently have Toyo MTs that are starting to look pretty rough (have about 30k miles on them.) Always hate to go backwards in aggressive! (Went from GSAs to X-Terrains to Krawlers to bias ply Iroks in my second gen.)

I'm indifferent to ride or noise, but the MTs definitely wear the outer lugs down pretty bad. (And likely are contributing to the being out of balance now.) I know tires are like ice cream, everyone has a favorite flavor, but having recently had Toyos and Falkans, I'm happy with their quality and I seem to have Maxxis on everything else the moves. (Side by Side, mtn bike, etc.)

If you want aggressive styling, low road noise, and 3 peak rating, check out the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs.

I don't have enough miles to give feedback on wear, but the have been great in the snow and are REALLY quiet on the highway for how aggressive they look.

Unfortunately I don't drive in the snow anymore. (We get maybe one snow day a year in NW OK.)

Ram 37s.jpg
Got the Toyo RT Trails mounted up. 37" LR E. Exactly 2" taller (36.25") than my 35" Toyo MTs. I also got an alignment done (which led done another rabbit hole on if I should go with Thuren specs. Discount couldn't adjust caster anyway but it was generally within the Thuren recommendations, they put too much toe-in according to Thuren.)

The 37”s fit really well with the AEV wheels (and Thuren lift)

Just barely kissed the inner fender liner on one of the ribs, pushed them back with some heat. Only around 2” of travel at full lock, anywhere else they cleared with no effort

Getting slightly better mileage than 35”s with the 5.13s.

If I’m ever lucky enough to move back to somewhere with winter I will run oem wheels with 35”s in the winter so I have room for chains. (I have both in storage)
