Water Leak Info

Hey guys you may have read this already but after all the rain we had here in the south I was getting water in the cab. enough that it was causing frost on the INSIDE of the window at night.... anyway I did some research and if you have this problem there is a small gap in the back window seal. If you follow the plastic strip that runs from front to back over the roof of the truck and lift up the end and look down at the rear window you will see it. Small amount of sealant and problem appears to be fixed. I can try to take photos if you need it but just wanted to throw this info out there to fellow power wagon guys to help out.

Welcome to the club. I have had a new window with new seal
TWICE & then a 3rd seal as well. Still leaks. I have sealed the entire rear window gap, all the way around, sealed up my 3rd brake light & my clearance lights.
IT STILL LEAKS. i CAN'T EVEN USE MY REAR UNDERSEAT STORAGE BECAUSE THEY FILL WITH WATER & FREEZE SOLID DURING THE WINTER !!!

Add my 2012 to the list. Heavy rain here today and water was POURING into the cab at the upper corner of the cab on the driver's side all the way at the rear. The water appeared to actually be coming from behind the headliner so I am not sure exactly where the leak is. It was one of those weekends so I did not have time to diagnose it. I am wondering how long it has been getting wet up there and how nasty it is going to be when they pull the headliner down.
Off to the dealership tomorrow to light up the warranty I guess.

Wow bummer! I wouldn't mind if folks could snap a few pics of the trouble areas I should check. No signs of leakage yet...

Exact same spot on mine. The Service Tech this morning said it is likely my third brake light also. It goes in Friday. I'll post an update once they figure it out.

I've got a slight leak from one of my clearance lights... first left-turn after a rain and I get some drips from the sun visor clip.
One of these days i'll snag one off ebay and replace it.

Honestly I'll take this over mechanical/electrical issues. I sort of assume I am going to have a problem with any vehicle. As long as I don't have a never ending string of them I can deal.

My 2010 leaked through the third brake light, that flimsy, skinny ass thing they call a gasket dries out up there. First time was warranty, second time was me with some silicone, that was 3 or 4 years ago, no issues since.

Get some clear silicone from the pet store for fish tanks. It's oder less. Goober the brake and clearance lights. No dealership will do this! Fix it on your own.

That's why I love this forum. Saw this topic for the first time yesterday, and my truck started leaking in the left rear seat today. Taking apart the 3rd brake light tonight.

My local dealer said they had had a few with the same problems over the last few months and they had been having good results with some kind of epoxy or something that has to setup and dry for so long before it can be moved. Wasn't silicon but something else.

I am going to let them fix it once. After that, I'll tear it down and seal the living hell out of everything up there if it happens again.

So what does the dealer do exactly to fix all these leaks, & what's causing them?

They told me it is a bad seal around the third brake light. Mine is there now so I'll have an update once they are done with it.

Update - just picked up my truck. Bad seal around the third brake light was the culprit. They "sealed it up" and it should be all good. The sealing it up part must involve Ninja magic or possibly human sacrifice because they were a little put off when I asked exactly what they did to "seal it up". I was just assured that they fixed it and it will not leak again. I am not going to pull it apart and disturb anything. We'll see if it leaks again.

What if the bulb goes out? I hope they just replaced the gasket.

Me too. I was torn between pulling it to see and letting it alone in case they sealed it up with silicone or something. The tech told me that they have had a lot of these but really balked at telling me how they fixed it. Not sure if he was just in a hurry or if they did a little redneck engineering. Time will tell. It is not that big of a deal as it should be an easy fix. However, it did not give me a warm fuzzy as far as any future issues I might have that will have to be addressed there.

More than likely they RVT'd it, even with that or silicone you can get it back off later if needed. But Who needs a third brake light that high up anyway... haha

Heavy rain last night and had tons of water in back drivers side of cab. Seat was wet and had about 4 inches of water in the little compartment under the seat. Third brake light was full of water also. Guess it's time to silicone the brake light and the corner of the back glass. I don't trust the dealership to do it right so I'll just do it myself. Is this a common problem with the 4 gen trucks?

Very heavy rain in SoCal.. my 3rd brake light leaked on my 2012 PW and I had about 2 inches under the rear seats in the storage compartments. Replaced the lens with the newest version from the dealer.. the seal has been improved from what appears to be open cell foam to close cell EDPM. This much better than using silicone or trying to glue seal to lens. Cost of replacement was $23 dollars from dealer...

How is it my 2018 still has the same issue. They replace the third brake light, sealed the window. . My 2015 PW leaked thru the sunroof like a sieve.
