Winch help

Post by JackSprat » Sun Apr 18, 2021 8:13 pm

My winch switch is not working, it looks to have the "pins" corroded , is there a way to manually or rig the motor to wind?
My rope is all out in my drive way and I'd like to get it would up until I fix the corroded pins (female side),

Jumper cable from a 12v battery, attach jumper between Fi and A or F2 and A on motor case. Attach neg cable from battery to motor case and touch positive to either F1 or F2 that isn't jumped to terminal A. I can't recall which F terminal is fwd or rev.

Now I have to clean that plug/switch lead.
But for now the rope is spooled up and tucked away.

heh... encountered the same thing with mine a week or two ago.
Was gonna use the winch to pull out a couple trees/bushes on my property. Got the cable all spooled out, tow strap around the tree, hooked to the winch, plugged in remote.... nada. "Shit."
Got the one tree out of the backyard. Pulled out the last of the winch cable and unhooked it from the drum, left it in the dog run next to my house.
Working on a real workbench right now, once I get that done i'll drop the winch and get it on the bench for diag.

Well I forgot to mention to keep tension on the cable or might end up with bird nest, like on a fishing reel. Sounds like it didn't. If it's not the remote or receptacle, then likely culprit in the solenoid pack and that means the winch has to come out.

Having almost dropped my winch on my foot last week, the winch and mount is VERY heavy. The cheap 500 pound scissors lift from harbor freight is worth it. And you will probably have to gently pop the small electronics package off the passenger side of the black enclosure to get the winch mount to rotate back far enough to remove or install it.
