Peter's 2019 Power Wagon Build Thread
Well I guess it is about that time I start a build thread.
Over the past year I have started adding parts to my 2019 Power Wagon and rather then spread it all over a bunch of posts figured I would start a thread on it.
Will have to retroactively blog on the previous additions but will start with the impetus for this thread.

Re: Peter's 2019 Power Wagon Build Thread
New Wheels and Tires
I have been wanting 37 inch tires on my Power Wagon's (2005 and 2019) ever since I saw how well Bill's wagon navigated at Rausch Creek.
With the 2005 you all know what a PITA it is to fit 35s let alone 37s without completely redoing the Suspension and adding long arms.
The great news with the later 4Gs and 5Gs it is a little easier and some have had luck with fitting 37 inch tire on stock rims with stock configuration.
I decided I wanted a bit more clearence for wider tires so I decided to put on new rims/wheels. I went with the AEV Salta rims in matte black to match the rock rails and bumpers.
For tires I originally wanted to go with the Nitto Trail Grapplers like I have on the 2005 PW but they are on national backorder so decided to give Cooper another try since they have been getting some good reviews with the STT Pro tires.
I went with the 37x12.50r17 which are D rated tires but gave better load ratings then the wider E rated of the same brand and better load rating then the Nitto Ridge Grapplers I was replacing which were 35x12.50r17 E rated tires.
The STT Pros have an added advantage over the Toyos and Nittos in that they have added sipping on parts of the tread which will give better wet traction.
I only have about 20 miles on the tires and wheels yet but so far I love the look and the ride. These tires are beefy. They come in at 36.77 inches tall and 13.3 inches wide.
That said the new AEV wheels and these tires feel a little lighter then the stock wheels and Nitto Ridge Grapplers.
Still trying to get the tire circumference right in AlfaOBD so the speedo is correct but that is just some fine tuning.
Enjoy the tire porn

They are surprisingly quiet. I put a set on my CJ and was pleasantly surprised. I'll be watching too as I'm wanting 37s on my next set.

The rear track bar took some work and getting the truck high enough to let the axle droop to get these monster springs in was not easy.
Need to tighten everything tomorrow then will take pics of it completed.
Will probably wait on the front till next week.

Yeah,. The run of the mill jack stands just don't cut it. I had to put a 6x6 timber on top of my jack stands, and very carefully lay the chassis down on it to put on my Thuren shackles.

Re: Peter's 2019 Power Wagon Build Thread
Be careful torquing the original lower track bar bolt for the bracket. The original lower bolt gets reused for the relocate bracket but the torque spec provided from Thuren caused me to break the original. I replaced it the following day (after getting creative having to cut the nut end off as it broke halfway down the bolt) and attempted the torque spec again, but stopped when I felt it begin to yield. I cant remember if it called for 160 or 180lb-ft but I remember I ended up stopping 15 to 20lbs shy so as not to break the bolt again. I still need to replace it with a non-compromised bolt.pdavey wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 2:50 amThe back is mostly installed.RustyPW wrote:Got my Kings last week. Installed them yesterday. Re: Peter's 2019 Power Wagon Build Thread
Thanks for the heads up. I may back it off as I did torque it to 160. Seemed really high but then again all the other bolts torqued up fine.
Here is some more truck porn.
Will be finishing it up tonight and take it for a drive then tow with it tomorrow.
Will keep folks posted on performance.
Going to do the front next week so will have to take a pic of the super rake tomorrow.

Re: Peter's 2019 Power Wagon Build Thread
Got the front end done today. New Thuren springs, Thuren trackbar, Thuren king steering damper and the temporary Thuren overland shocks plus a little bling by replacing the factory fog/side marker lights with the baja designs S2 pods.
They make a huge difference. Really like the ride and the cornering. Will be even better when the King 2.5s get here.
If you have a 19+ Power Wagon the kit they make for the TRX/Rebel will fit the Power Wagon.
It doesn't say it on their sight but I took a chance after looking at the bracket online and it fits.

Re: Peter's 2019 Power Wagon Build Thread
Nice Pete. Good to see it progressing. Got to get some rattle can on that frame...lol. I just today installed Baja Designs Squadron Sport Wide Cornering lights on my Thuren bumper to replace my OE fogs. Liking them so far. I guess we are in sync on that selection. I am considering drilling 4 more holes in the center of my Thuren bumper to top mount 4 more Baja Designs for auxiliary lights.

Geez....that's excellent...
Re: Peter's 2019 Power Wagon Build Thread
Added some airbags to make towing a bit better after adding the long travel suspension.
I am very happy with the airbags with the Daystar cradles and they had zero impact on articulation off-road.
I basically could compress the bag down to the stock bumpstop height.
I unfortunately didn't get a pic of the airbag fully compressed but I was very impressed.
