Bad TRE

I recently started having a popping sound from the front end when turning the steering wheel. Took it to the shop and they told me that most of my TRE were bad or going bad. They game me a reasonable price to fix it with Moog parts but wanted to know what parts you all would use if you were replacing most of your TRE's.

I had all mine replaced with MOOG HD Tie Rods & ends. They are now all greaseable. I have the old Y-style steering. So far, i like em, no issues. I believe there are 2 different lines though: Reg & HD, get the HD ones.

By any chance do you still have part numbers for those or are they the same as the 2500's?

I know one of them is ES800532. If you need help finding the others, let me know. I can look them up on Oreilly's site. I just happened to have one of those ES800532s sitting here by me.

Did some of our trucks have the T-style steering instead of Y-style from the factory?

T style is the 08.5 and up setup, which is stock on those trucks. The earlier models 03-08 have Y steering. This was a 2nd gen thing too, in case anybody cares. 94-97 had Y steering, and in 98 they introduced a T style setup. Then it went away in 99 and back to Y. Don't ask me "Y" because I have no idea but that's the history of it all.

The T-style system uses a straight tie rod to connect the steering knuckles and Y-link design connects the knuckles through two separate bars, correct? So if my 05 has the T-style then its safe to say a previous owner at some point did the swap and for parts I need to look at the 08.5 set-up?
