I'm looking for a way to improve my fuel mileage in my 16 PW. I found a tuner, PCR . Says it could increase mileage up to 8mpg and more power. I'm more interested in the mileage. Relatively cheap at $69.00, anyone have any experience with these tuners??

Sounds like a scam. You couldn't get 8 mpg more out of these trucks unless you were having them towed.

And you bought the wrong truck if you're concerned about fuel economy in any way, shape or form.

If you get a real tuner, like the Diablosport, and a custom tune, you might see 1mpg gain roughly.

$<400 doesn’t buy you a tuner and nothing buys you 8mpg

I just got a Diablosport i3 from Hemifever. I have the custom 87 octane tune in now. It woke my PW up. If I can keep my foot off the loud pedal. I picked up 2 mpg. Went from 9.7 to 11.7. Once I burn through this tank. I'll log some data and send it back to Hemifever to do a custom 93 octane tune.

8mpg is BS. And at $59.99. Stay away, far away. It sounds more like a pedal commander. It changes the sensitivity of the gas pedal.

If you wanted fuel economy, you should have bought a motorcycle. Leave the truck in teh driveway.

No way it will provide that kind of change. Good tuners + $400 imho, can make a difference but our results avg similar to RustyPW’s increased to +/- 11.3

When DiabloSport finally released support for our 6.4, I contacted them about potential Hp or fuel mileage gains. They had several dyno charts showing about 20 Peak Hp gains with 93 Octane on a stock truck, but indicated that any fuel mileage gain would typically be less than 1mpg no matter which tune I used. Maybe that has changed by now - but I would doubt it.

I actually get about 17 mpg in the summer on highway trips...
- if you don't hear the MDS drone, your sucking fuel!
It is possible to routinely get 16-17mpg unloaded, and here is how you can do it in order of biggest impact:
1) Only use Ethanol free gas (impact is more than 1 mpg)
2) Use summer blend gas (impact is about 1 mpg)
3) Keep your speed less than 70 mph (you lose more than 1 mpg at 75)
4) Run your stock tires at minimum 65psi
5) Don't use cruise unless you're on flat ground (I can get .5 mpg better)
5a) let your truck lose 5mph as you're cresting a hill
5b) maintain downhill momentum for hill ahead
6) Coast to slow down well ahead of time (wind resistance not compression)
7) Keep your windows closed (huge impact at higher speeds)
8) Draft large trucks

Back when I had the '13 with the 5.7, I could't get anywhere near the fuel mileage that i get now

Gas guzzler for sure. Might check some of the hypermiler forums. Those folks live to find ways to squeeze every mile out of a gallon of gas. I would imagine some one has developed techniques for trucks, maybe not a Power Wagon, but some sort of truck.

FWIW, I bought a DiabloSport long ago and could never get it to work on my '05 because my DSL internet connection was apparently too slow to update the software. Few years later I bought an Edge tuner because it was one of the few that I could still get in California after they tightened smog laws again. I have the Edge set on 87 econo tune and it significantly improves the driveability of the truck, probably because of transmission reprogramming. I still run 89 octane most of the year and 91 during the hottest part of the summer. Fuel mileage improved by maybe 2/10s of one mpg. On econo tune. Still worth it for the trans improvements and for the ability to display up to eight engine parameters on the Edge display.

Hello all, I'm the owner of my 3rd power wagon a 2019. From the time she was mine at 31 miles I've stayed pretty much around 9mpg for normal driving. If i really baby and try could get 10.5. Like a magical transformation when the odometer hit 7000 miles i had a noticeable change to shift patterns for the better ( was happy with it over the 6 speed from the start ) and engine smoothness and power "felt" . It was just like the notice to a real good performance tune? Everything is still stock except a nannie bypass switch installed around 300 miles. Now highway travel i get regularly 15 or slightly better and normal driving hovers around 14 or so. Very interesting and leaves me wishing there were no computer controlled crap at all on this truck. Makes you wonder how much insurance company and regulatory bullshit that our trucks are held back by. Btw the 97 mph speed limiter still is in place. If anyone knows of some software that would allow me full access to my truck and the ability to service it and make it work as I desire please pass the info along to me.

What im getting at is, if you could save the program before 7000 miles or anything noticeable and then after and line by line review and find ( and undo changes ) how much could we truely learn about our trucks.

IDK about the newer Power Wagons, mine has been 10MPG combined hwy/cty since it was new. The Free spin kit didn't do anything except about 1mpg increase on the highway, with a tailwind. Parking it for extended periods of time is the best method.

I'm new to this site. Joined today. Wish I'd found it sooner. Lot's of good info here, that's for sure. I bought my PW new in Feb 2015. I've never kept a truck longer than 2 years but I've had my PW 5 1/2 years. Love the 6.4 hemi. First thing my friends said was "It must be a hard on fuel" I give the same reply to everyone. If I wanted a vehicle that was good on fuel I would have bought a Honda Civic. Unfortunately gas driven trucks are just not gonna be fuel misers. And no Tuner imo is gonna give you more than 1 or 2 mpg. And then you may have to go to premium gas. For the size and weight of these trucks I think we generally speaking get fairly decent gas mileage. Better airflow would probably help. i.e cold air intake/exhaust.Just my humble opinion.
