Looking at finally getting some sliders. Deciding between white knuckle and aluminess. What are thoughts on both from those who own them?

white knuckle seems like the go to around here. they will be my choice.
if im not mistaken, the aluminess are not frame mounted?

and depending on your use, frame mounted sliders may be the most sturdy

I went with wk sliders. Drilling all those holes in the body to mount the aluminess ones scared the hell out of me. The rockers would be swiss cheese in no time around here with all the road salt in the winter.

The aluminess offer a lot more ground clearance per se, but really the wk ones dont hang anywhere near as low as the frame does, sooooooo....

The Aluminess is aluminum, so it's soft metal. You'll put so nice grooves in them if you slide across enough rocks. I have their bumper. And I got some nice marks on the bottom of it.

Aluminess sliders are steel. The problem with them is that they mount to the body just like step bars. Maybe OK for incidental bump protection, but not OK for hard hits and intentional use.

When did they change them. They was aluminum.

I knew the aluminess were made out of steel, but I did not know they mounted to the body. That doesn't exactly seem like the best place to anchor rock sliders haha. The white knuckle ones sure look awesome.

Believe the aluminess sliders have always been steel. Everything else they make is aluminum I believe. Their Ram sliders are an exception.

There’s pictures you can google of a truck identical to mine that got t-boned in an intersection by a hatchback. The front of the car was annihilated; the Aluminess slider had a bent in it and there was a dent in the door. I think there are pros and cons to either. For occasional hits aluminess is just fine.

I haven’t worked with aluminess sliders. Just don’t discount them because they’re body mounted. If you beat on your truck get frame mounted sliders. Otherwise for occasional use the body mounted units work.

That truck is the same one on their website. Possibly the only set they’ve ever sold? Haha

The body mount can be strong enough. There is the hardcore Jeep trick where you cut away the rocker panels and weld in DOM tubing.

But the WK have been fine in my limited experience of being dragged over rock by a winch.

To the OP - go with the .188 DOM White Knuckle sliders, they are the strongest frame mounted option! Fast and easy install without any drilling anywhere!

WK is a really nice product. I am very pleased with mine and have definitely used them hard.

I guess I'd be fine with either, but will go with WK. the biggest obstacle now is convincing the wife that I need a $1000 mod on my truck. Some mods are easy to hide, but not this one haha.

Show her how much damage to the rocker panels and doors costs to repair. They pay for themselves the first time they take a good bump.

Haha good point. I will also show her the pictures damagewagon posted of that wreck. Safety first!

This, this "good enough for Jeeps" thing comes up all the time when people are talking about the Randy Elis sliders. There is also another HUGE difference, and that's the gap between the frame and the body. Look under a Jeep and notice how much closer it is to the pinch seam. A lot of Jeep sliders, while mounting there, also go back to the frame.

It's def not apples and oranges.

This may come off like I'm some cranky old guy but I promise its with good intentions.

Can we sticky this or another thread that shows all the options for PW Rock Sliders? Seems like this comes up every couple months and maybe its because we don't have a sticky that shows all the options and pros/cons of each.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the site traffic and a firm believer of theirs no such thing as a stupid question but it would be nice to be able to post a simple link when someone asks this question. At least if they have specific questions, they can always start a new thread.

Oh yeah, David bought his used on CL somewhere near Aurora, CO.

When I bought mine there were two sets in circulation. If those were a CL pickup, they may be my sliders’ long lost twins.
