Well, that's disappointing. :(

It's the same frame, all new sheet metal only. Clearly, no changes to suspension or drive train (that can be determined from photos) on this one.

Image

Front valance would seem to indicate, they won't be giving the Power Wagon a more distinct look from the normal 2500's like the Ram Rebel. Huge disappointment for me. That means zero improved approach angles. Looks like a HUGE lower chin. Just means more dragging and scraping. Nothing that will set it apart. Guess that means, they'll be relying on stickers and different grilles.

Image

WTF is going on with the rear bumper, they added a rear valance to the bumper? SERIOUSLY!! Look closely. This ties in with the above. Stupid design decisions. This bumper appears to be the same as the current bumper design, but now, sitting lower? This has got to be an illusion right?

Image

Honestly, this just lowered my expectations a lot. I'm not as interested or excited, or as tempted to start saving for a 2020 model. I was expecting more. We'll have to wait to see the big reveal, but really. For me, I've lost interest. I'm sure it will look good, but where are the real improvements over the current gen outside of interior styling?

So is this gen 5.0 or 4.5.2? Great way to celebrate the 75th anniversary! 😴

From my understanding, this is what they did with the 3rd/4th gen prior to 2014 when they changed the frame and added the 6.4 engine and changed the suspension. This really just isn't exciting. I was expecting more than sheet metal refresh. This is half-baked and half-assed.

Also no getting around the fact to attempt to improve aerodynamics/mpg they added plastic valances hanging down everywhere. And sticking with tiny wheels.

It really wouldn’t surprise me if in January they announce new and improved 3.73 gears.

It certainly doesn’t look like a hellcat or 7.0 L exhaust system.

Doesn’t look like they are using the same radius arms as the other 2020 models, they don’t have the holes in them.

The radius arms look identical to me. The rear control arms and brackets look identical. Skid plates and crossmember look identical. The CAD housing looks changed, I see the damper bracket but not the arc of the cast CAD housing.

When they made the 3/4th gen split they only changed the body and a few small other things, but kept the drivetrain and suspension. Almost unchanged underneath. They might be doing the same here and planning a powertrain update for later, which might explain why the TRX is planned to release several years from now

Yes, they look the same as the current 4.5 gen's, but different than the 2020 "regular" 3/4 tons (which now have dimples in them).

Word on the street/rumor mill is 2022 for the TRX.

All kidding aside, it’s still the most capable production pickup truck on the planet.

Ok, that makes me wonder. What's up with that? Is the PW a test mule? Or is this a prototype test mule with something weird going on with the radius arm.

I sincerely doubt those holes will be there in production. Those might be to test something or route wires but the thought of weakening a primary suspension component, with increased cost, makes no sense to me in this application. I see no benefit. But we can mindfuck the 3% of the prototype test trucks until the internet burns down so :chug: :chug: :chug:

Since we are speculating out our buttholes  which is a time-honored BSing tradition of forums...

So, here is something to make you think, WTF is going on in this section? What engine is this? Cummins?

The Hemi PW with the radius arms is clear as daylight, but in this photo >>

Looks like exhaust which makes it a gas truck. Cummins exhaust is on passenger side.

That’s the muffler bearing. That, or the blinker fluid reservoir.

Meh, I'll wait to see it unwrapped. But I was hoping they'd give it some better front end off-road visibility. The big, square front end doesn't let you see anything nearby. The 3G trucks are much better in that respect.

All the moaning and groaning about the lack of changes :poke:

I just don't want Ram to drop down to a 6 cylinder!

As long as the front and rear still have a real bumper and not a full plastic valence I won’t be too disappointed. If Ram is trying to increase the production numbers, they aren’t going to do anything too radical with the bumpers. I just want decent options for off-road fabricated bumpers. The bumpers available for the Toyota’s/Nissans/etc with plastic front ends are just silly.

I would like to see more off road oriented updates:

1) 35" tires
2) 2.5" shocks
3) Better payload capacity
4) High clearance bumpers

THIS - I've been thinking about this a lot. Especially when you look at the shock offerings on the Ford Raptor & Chevy Colorado and even freaking the 2018 Tacoma is offering "TRD-tuned off-road suspension with 2.5-in. FOX Internal Bypass coil-overs and rear remote reservoir shocks"

So the Power Wagon has really terrible shocks from the get go. I think most of us who have upgraded or done hard stuff realize that.

But you know what, I don't think they will ever do anything else. Look at the Rubicon. Same thing going on there. Sloppy mono-tubes.

If anything, we might see something on the TRX. But that will be a totally different truck. So, save your pennies for Thuren goodies future PW owners.

Rumor is 4cyl twin turbo Eco Boost will be an option.
