My factory one gave up the fight this summer....all 19K miles on it and 4 years ( :wtf: )

I did lots of research, and ended up with a sears platinum with 930CCA, (Same as a odyssey 65-PC1750T for almost half price).
Has a great warranty and give me piece of mind to not have to worry about hte battery again for a while (It is expensive though)
http://www.sears.com/diehard-platinum-a ... ockType=G1
http://www.odysseybattery.com/

Others out there are almost all the same, they just have different labels (really only 1 or 2 parent companies that make all the batteries).

I have read that the optima batteries have gone to crap and to stay away (they were sold and sent to Mexico or something now :secret:)

Tunes:Pioneer AVH-X5800BHS w/stock infinity amp, Infinity ref. dash/reardoor speakers, kappa component front door, JL rear stealth box and JX500.1d.

Sears Die Hard Platinum. Made by Odyssey for Sears. Made to exceed Military specs. Designed to hold a full charge for up to 2 years on shelf.

Gp 65 for stock replacement.

Gp 31M for the big boy.

I have one of each. No issues.

Ditto - Group 65 Diehard Platinum is the only way to go. Spendy, but well worth the money.
I'm just along for the ride...

I love it when everyone actually agree's on something! It looks like the 65 will work... Is the 31 a deep cycle? I didn't think that was good for vehicles?

I replaced the original battery in my '05 back in June. It wasn't showing any age, but I felt that I was pushing the envelope keeping it in there. It seems like the OEM batteries last close to forever. I don't get it. Nothing seems to last as long once you replace it.

The older batteries (Pre 2006, maybe 2007) were far superior from what I was reading over on the cummins forum.

The new ones that come in the truck are junk they say (lots of threads on them dying young)

Anyone try stuffing a group 65 or 31M in a fourth gen?

I have my Gp 65 under the hood, in stock location with stock hardware & hold downs & no issues.

I have the Gp 31M in my bed tool box. It is a plug & play set up to under hood battery. I charge it after use & every now & again when not using it. No issues. Makes the winch work like it was supposed to. They can draw 400+ amps :jawdrop: at full load.

EnerSys makes the DHP for Sears and for Odyssey.

There are quite a few battery companies and quite a few considerations to be made on battery selection. I don't think that internet speculation is a good solid way to go about picking one...

Pernicious nonsense. I have two D31M Optima BlueTops in my trailer, don't treat them well, and they're working great. I got them directly from the factory in Mexico.

One of the considerations to make about a truck battery that sees severe service is recharge time. Optimas have low internal resistence and charge back up fast.
Cold cranking amperage is another thing.
How well do they handle shock, vibration, trail/work abuse? How are they constructed? How many parts & welds?

For me, an ideal battery set up in a PW is a pair of YellowTops. Just need a bigger tray...

Per my battery supplier, Advanced Battery in Culver City CA, the Optimas have gone to crap in recent years. Advanced sells Optima and Odyssey, among others, and they tell me that they have more failures with Optimas than with their other lines. My personal experience confirms that (small sample), in that I have been running primarily Optimas in three GMC trucks for most of the last 15 years, and I have had short life spans from several of my Optimas, but no mechanical failures of the batteries. My Z71 is currently running two Optima Yellows that replaced a Red/Yellow combo during the summer. The old batteries lasted about three years. A few years ago, there was some discussion about whether Optima Yellows were suitable for starting service (based on early failures reported by multiple sources). I cornered an Optima rep at SEMA and he told me that there is no reason not to use the Yellow as a starting battery, and that in trucks that sit for long periods of time the Yellow is probably better than the Red because it's deep cycle. I use Red or Yellow, depending on what I have in my spares or what I can get on sale. Having said all that, the PW is running a pair of Odysseys, with a 31M 2150 under the hood and a 34/78 1500 under the cab. My first Odyssey 1500 developed a loose connection (mechanical failure, known problem and now supposedly corrected) on one of the terminals and became useless to me because I need all the terminals to work in my application. It was out of warranty when I figured out what was going on, so I keep it on the shelf for emergency backup. The first 31M in the PW was a Sears PL-1, and it developed a bad cell right at the end of the three-year warranty. When I figured out what was going one with that one, I went back to Sears and they told me there was nothing they could/would do, even though it was less than a week out of warranty. Was I pissed? Yes, big time. Called Odyssey to bitch to them about their battery and the treatment from Sears, and they told me to go to Advanced and they would swap out my Sears Pl-1 for a real Odyssey 2150. So, 2/3 of my Odysseys have failed prematurely but Odyssey treated me fairly. Several of my Optimas have failed prematurely, but I'm getting 3+ years out of them and replacement is just a cost of doing business. Moral of the story: They are all crap and you just have to choose the best crap for your needs.

This is just sad. Who ever would have thought that W-Worlds batteries just might be as good or warranty would be as good & get treated better there, than paying top dollar for a supposedly top-notch battery. Where are Optima's & Odyssey's made now ? In America ? Probably not would be my guess but IDK for sure.

I bet that Optima would love to talk to Advanced Battery.
I think Steve at Advanced talks with Optima on a regular basis. They always have multiple pallets of Optimas out in the warehouse. These things sell like hotcakes to the tuner crowd in Los Angeles, and most of the rice rockets with massive audio systems are using Optimas. I'll continue using both Optima and Odyssey until I can find something better for my specific purposes.

I have two Ever Start Max batteries from walmart in my CDT. Best product for the money. Sure you can get higher cost batteries but how much better are they? AGM's are nice but hard on alternators.
