Not sure what is malfunctioning but sometimes the dam gate will just fling open when Im driving......

Anyone else have this issue or a fix?

I haven't had this issue with my Ram, but the Chevy I drove previously did this. I figured out that the latches weren't engaging the pins, and I sprayed everything I could think of on them. Nothing worked 'til I figured out that it was the handle mechanism that was binding up. Took apart the tailgate, put some dry lube on the handle mechanism, and everything was smooth after that.

I vaguely recall this happening to a Guy I know, ended up being the fob. It was triggering the unlock/open function randomly.

Did dodge even have an option to open the tailgate with the key fob? Lock/unlock it yes, but I dont think it has the option to open it.

Hahaha! I don’t remember exactly...
He’s saying it was the lock mechanism needed replaced. Warranty issue, he didn’t care as long as it was fixed. There may be a TSB for this, I’d call your dealership Sir. It’s worth a shot...

Did a youtube search prior to posting, One hack was to disconnect the wiring to the lock on the 13-present models...not sure if my gate locks with the fob,,,gotta check when dam rain stops.

Does your bed look straight? This is a common problem for high speed off-road use but the tailgate opens due to bed flex. And then falls off. Lol.

My 2011 I’ve never once had the tailgate open on accident but my mechanism is pretty thrashed and needs more love than it should to open

OK so my tailgate does not lock w the fob.

In my 18 month ownership of the PW Ive only left pavement twice so its prolly not an alignment issue but there are severe pot holes around northern nj that may have jarred it out of plumb, so Ill have to check the gaps.

Last culprit is the latch mechanism and I think a spring may have broken or fallen off....gotta open her up....again when the dam rain stops. ugh

Mine will do that if I don't slam it shut (2012). I can tell if it is fully latched or not by pulling on it after I close it. It is in the latch mechanism somewhere. I have not pulled it apart yet since I can still get it to latch. I guess I should before it gets worse.

Not my PW but my previous 1500 Ram would pop open occasionally. Was always due to the latches and handle mechanism needing some cleaning and lube. Mostly in the winter here in TX during the two weeks of cold.

If you are a go-fast off-road person, bed side stiffeners are in your future, as DamageWagon stated.

So I ended up locking the gate with the key itself. Has not popped open yet. I guess this is a temp fix till I can fiddle with the innards of the lock mechanism....
