Using the winch in the winter.

Sucks. Hook was frozen to the tow hook, cap for the winch cable had about 2" of ice cementing it on, same for the spool lever.
Once past all that it was fine.

Sounds to me, like you need a custom made neoprene winch cover, that velcro's in place-to itself.

Just a flap of rubber covering the top works great. Easy to flip up and use. Folds down after use.

Sounds like someone's a bit of a snowflake! Haha. Sorry, bad pun...
If you'd just cover it in salt, like everything else in this frozen hell, it would stop working altogether and you'd never have to worry about unsticking a frozen hook again!
