Oil help?!

OK, I will be relocating from Central Louisiana, to the New Richland/Waseca, Minnesota area. The Pennzoil oil that is currently in the Power Wagon, did not perform very well in the cold out there. It sounded like an 6.0 diesel for about a minute and a half while it was warming up. What all do you guys use up there? I am contemplating using Mobile One synthetic 0W 40, because I've used in other vehicles and it has performed very well when it is cold. Suggestions? Thank you all for your help. This transition from the heat of Louisiana, to the cold Minnesota is going to be hell on my truck and me !

Amsoil handles the extremes well. I get fast oil pressure with 5W-30 down to 20 degrees (haven’t been lower), I’m about to switch to the 0W-30. One change per year makes it cheaper than alternative oils. The 25,000 Mile / 1 year oil changes are realistic. My dealer runs the 5W-30 in his 3rd gen Hemi in the 1 year interval and said it is common for diesels to run the oil to 100,000 miles and just add some at intervals to replenish the additive package the oil carries.

It was -10F this morning when I fired up my truck. Quiet as it has always been since I have been putting in Amsoil.

I live in ks and truck has been in -10 to 110 temps. I use mobile 1 synthetic 0w40. Been happy with it.

I like the Amsoil brand, so I became a dealer after I changed my diff fluid. Let me know if you want to get some, and I can get you hooked up. They seem to make quality products and I like those types of things, so now I can help other guys out with oil and associated stuff. I am slowly switching all my fluids over to Amsoil, but I have not had time or weather to do them all.

I looked up the specs in the owners manual and is says 0w-40 for all conditions. Don't assume that the 0w is just for cold weather it could be required for other reasons if it was my engine I would stick with a name brand 0w-40 synthetic.

Stand by my shell t6 0-40! I've got 5 trucks with combined mileage of over 3 million km. Oil has never been a cause or problem for anything. I also buy it by the pail or 45gal drum depending on who has what on sale.

Been using Mobil1 0w40 in my PW, GC, and track car. No issues so far. It's been below zero for the last week here. Track car will see oil temps over 260F.

When I left from up there it was -21 and it barely started and sounded like a 6.0 diesel. It was horrible.

Got tired of not finding FCA's pet Penzoil up here in Alaska and switched over to Amsoil 0w-40 on my last change. When I started the truck I could hear the ticks and noises going away over about 15 seconds. Now it starts up nice and quiet (was -10F yesterday).

I believe MDS relies on the viscosity specification.

Synthetic is very different than conventional oil pertaining to viscosicity. A 0w-40w synthetic is actually a 40w oil that flows like a 0w when cold. But it's always a 40w. Conventional oil changes its properties as it warms up.

Soooo, I went back up to Minnesota, found a house, made an offer, did some negotiating, got home inspection, now we have to wait on closing. Before I left, I changed my oil to mobile 1 0W 40. The coldest I saw while I was up there, this time, was -15. It did not sound like a midget with a hammer in the oil pan when I first started up. I wonder if this has something to do with the factory preferred Penzoil, or what. The other thing I picked up before I left, was a grill cover. It was nice to actually have a fully functioning heating system in the truck, versus what I had last time, which was just warm air. Anyone around Albert Lea area?
