Lockers in 4HI

Post by Lazarus » Tue Nov 07, 2017 4:45 pm

Anybody have a wiring diagram of how to wire the lockers on an 05 PW so that I can use them in 4HI? I know there's lots of info on this topic, but I haven't been able to find a diagram anywhere. Thanks for the help!

There's also the option of hardwiring your lockers. Here's some diagrams and pictures I've saved for my own future reference.

Here's a thread that discusses it with a link to another forum where I saved some of the pictures from.

This is the connector you would need if you wanted to plug straight into the axle housing without damaging your factory harness.

Now you have two options to consider, however this one would certainly cause your "Service 4X4" light to come on, but it also has no restrictions as to your speed limit or throttle mapping.

Probably better to use low power wires from the switches to relays, then bigger wire from the relays to the lockers.
The switches should be powered by a source that only comes on with the ignition and you should have a way of cutting power to the relays(eg: pulling a fuse) to avoid activating the lockers if you hit a switch accidentally.
I insert my locker relay fuse as I am airing down and pull it when airing up.

Thanks for the diagram BLM! Do you know if it was ever figured out how to run theblocker bypass through the factory knob? Is that only possible through the locker bypass or is it possible to piggyback those wires through a relay to run as a bypass, thereby leaving all factory wiring in place but no longer relying on the smartbar.

I'm imagining this is possible and not too difficult. I haven't pulled the dash to look at the wires.

Yes it is possible. It is just a PIA. Morgan (previous 12/13 PW owner) is an EE, and he was able to design a PnP interface box to bypass the smart bar circuitry to trick the factory xfer case pos sensor, and supply required 5v signal to the lockers to actuate in any xfer case setting, 2wd, 4H, std 4L.

I have one installed: Required mounting the box to firewall, unplugging a main harness up front along grill, inserting the new box between, running dedicated line to battery+grnd, and then running new wires to both lockers...works well.
