Keep it as it is. Nothing new will last that long.
Check odometer. May be it was only 50,000 miles?

Re: 06 repower
Mopar crate 6.4 with 485 horsepower runs about 7k these days. Otherwise if you need to repower on more of a budget you can freshen up your bottom end and clean up the heads pretty cheaply. Throw a cam in while you have it apart and proceed another 500k

Re: 06 repower
Didn't gun25boat rebuild his 5.7 into a 6. something when be blew it up? You might be able to go that route if it can be sidelined for a bit during the rebuild.

Stay away from Jasper. They've had some issues.RED06WAGON wrote:I was thinking Jasper, reman , mopar does not offer it, and yes 500.000 miles folks with 10w 40 Quaker state since new however i like the truck will the 6.4 bolt in or major problem.

Pull the motor out and freshen it up. This gives you a clean sheet. OR keep the motor in and see how far it going before it dies.

Re: 06 repower
Not a bad price for an entire new mill. However my vote is still for a shiny new one at those miles.

Re: 06 repower
I put one of these in on my 07 about 16 months ago when I dropped a valve seat it has 25k miles on it so far and has been rock solid, smooth with plenty of power. The warranty on mine was 3yrs or 100k miles.RED06WAGON wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 10:51 pmPositive feed back from dealer brand new 5.7 available long block,Part no.68266873AA, warranty 3yrs open miles, any thoughts thanks.
Something to consider, I also replaced all the motor's sensors, air filter, serpentine belt, idler pulleys, starter and Hemi hat resonatory because they reuse all that stuff and I got it cheaper online myself.

Re: 06 repower
It took them about 2.5 days to pull out the old motor, pull off and reinstall all the reusable parts (oil pan, timing cover, valve covers, intake manifold, emission-control parts, fuel injection system, the exhaust manifolds, alternator, starter, power steering pump, and air conditioner compressor) and put the new motor in, 21 hours worth of labor. Different dealers have different labor rates per hour.

Re: 06 repower
That means you are in well over 7K with new sensors, water pump, ect, probably close to 8K. Nice down payment on something with 0 miles.

Re: 06 repower
so was the 06 best year any one else with half million miles still running good no issues,so its time for transplant soon. To be honest a new truck is good news however this one is easier to maintain, and everything has been redone power train besides engine.
