The factory airbox does draw through the inner fender.

Yea, just gotta cut a hole in your fender.

A bigger hole will allow more air flow. Also you can make cardboard wind deflectors to enhance the flow direction using masking tape to hold them in place.

Inside of airbox is this to reduce noise?

You can also use a 3 in hole saw to cut out an airway at the bottom of the airbox and run airduct hose from the hole to the to the front of the vehicle. You'll need to buy a few things to make it look cosmetically good. I did that on my last truck and it worked pretty good.

My Airbox already had an inlet that ran into the fender on my 2015. Before even adding the AEV intake.

More likely for airflow control. Probably a good thing.
