Laramie or New Style

Post by StubbleJumper » Sun Feb 26, 2017 1:10 pm

Hello guys, new to the forum but been reading lots for the last month. I've decided it's time for a new truck, and have done some research.
I live in Alberta, so we get our fair share of snow, the GF and I ride dirt bikes, and camp with our trailer, fish, and the odd trip through the Rockies.
With that being said the Power Wagon seems like the right truck to upgrade to with our outdoor lifestyle. Truck will be my daily driver.

I found a 2017 Power Wagon Laramie in Burgandy with an asking price of 65,000. Took it for a test drive yesterday, beautiful truck. All the options I would want with the exception of dual alternators, but I don't plan on winching a whole lot so not a deal breaker, and the cab clearance lights.

The other option is I did a build on the website and can get one built to my specs for roughly the same price, new body style, etc. Some days I like the new front end, some days not, but I'm sure it would grow on me.

Just wanted to get some thoughts and opinions on either trucks. Thanks for your time!

Power Wagon is going to be more versatile offroad than the Laramie. But the Laramie is going to have greater payload, but with less ground clearance.

I interpret what you are asking as: Do I buy a 2017 PW from the lot, or do I configure and order one. If you are willing to wait several weeks, then order one and get exactly what you want!

Haha yeah pretty much! With the one off the lot I was going to low ball them with an offer, and they are having 0% financing. Not many of the new PW's around my area at the moment.

How are you liking your PW Laramie?

A Laramie Power Wagon will not have a greater payload than an SLT Power Wagon. It will be slightly less. That said do you prefer splash or a sleeper look? The newer Wagon is splash. Older model is the sleeper in Laramie trim.

The OP is asking about a new 2017 Power Wagon Laramie ( old style ) versus a new 2017 Power Wagon SLT ( new style ).

If you don't like the front end, how difficult or expensive could it be to change the grill/bumper to the black Tradesman front end ?

It really just comes down to the style you prefer... if you like the exterior chrome and interior wood-colored dash inlays, then go with the Laramie PW... if you prefer the blacked-out look and re-styled grill of the new PWs, then custom order and get exactly what you want...

I ordered a 2017 PW in early January and took delivery of it 5 weeks later. The dealer should be able to give you the same deal on an order for a 2017 as they could for a 2017 already on the lot. The MSRP on the truck I ordered was almost $62K, but after dealer discounts and FCA incentives the actual price was just under $51K (before taxes). Just saying... unless you're in a hurry or just prefer the look of the Laramie... you might as well factory order and get all the options you want...

I've had my PW about 2 weeks and just started a topic for anyone that has questions specific to the 2017:

If you decide to order one and want to know anything, just let me know...

Are we sure, because I thought we established you can't get the Power Wagon in Laramie trim now....

I know he wrote that, but I was confused. Does that mean their are PW Laramie's out there? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can't order the 2017 Laramie PWs anymore, but they produced some in late 2016 (probably before they re-tooled for the new exterior). So, there are still some on dealer lots and I think the OP is looking at one of those...

Honestly it's a personal preference thing.its all cosmetic. That being said I think they both look very good but I prefer the new decals and wheels. I like white trucks and I really like the way all the black will look on a white truck. That's why I ordered a white 17.

There are a few 17 pw laramies sitting on lots here in AB, they seem to sell slow.

Anyway you can get a 17 Pw Laramie for less than 60k cdn. Just grind em.

Personally partial to the Laramie look. Much more of an old school truck look to me.

Though I do love the new rebel style look as well! Just think the Laramie with the PW gear is more sleeper.

I just put a Laramie grill on my white SLT. It took all of 10 minutes to swap it out. I removed all the stickers, completely de-badged it (except for the rear ram head which has a placement hole in the bed under the badge) and added the Laramie front grill. Now it looks a lot like a Laramie except for the black (not body) color fender flares and chrome mirror/handle covers (which can be added for ~$100). My SLT is fully loaded other than that and of course cloth seats. I would have preferred the leather seats but wasn't willing to pay $10k for them :D .

I'll be trying to sell my original chrome grill with the billet red inserts in the classifieds section next week.
