Last place in an offroad challenge?!
I normally like pickuptrucks.com but this test is off base considering it's labeled as a Factory Truck Off Road Challenge.
http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2017/01/20 ... rview.html
I don't need to explain to you guys why the most versatile truck of the group should have placed higher in the rankings...

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
Number of tow hooks??? Points for weighing the most??? Points for having bigger tires??? Points for being heavier on a scale??! What kind of crock of shit is that. Horsepower comparison for a 3/4 ton full size heavy duty vs 1/3ron aluminium bodied truck for 0-60 times and 1/4 mile?? This is an off road comparison. With the 1/2 ton segment

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
The PW was last because they say "the Power Wagon's chances of placing better among lighter, more fuel-efficient and quicker, yet mostly less off-road-capable, trucks." really, this tells me that this is a bunch of street truck boys trying to play 4x4 judge.
There're criteria is not what I use when looking for an off road vehicle, in fact much of what they judged by is last on my list. My list starts with things at actually make a difference on the trail like traction (ie. lockers), articulation, shocks, tires, low end torque, overall vehicle durability, self recovery options (winch), etc..
In more serious 4x4 publications the PW is always on or near the top of the list!

A more in depth opinion of the above ! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Lesson learned here: This is what happens when a bunch of car guys & soccer dad guys take trucks off road. They think they know it all but fall far short from doing so. Why is this you might ask: Because probably NONE OF THEM have ever had a truck of their own & IF they did, they certainly did NOT use it everyday to get shit done (such as around the farm, around the construction site, hunting-fishing, towing campers or other trailers), let alone really use it off road. If they had, they would know traction is KING off road. The PW is the ONLY one with lockers front & rear, & the ONLY one with a flexible suspension that can still do a fair amount of real world work.
REAL men know the deal.

Torsen Limited slip front diff. But the new Raptor has a msrp of $79k. Dealers are asking $10k-15k more than msrpolyelr wrote:TwinStick wrote:A more in depth opinion of the above ! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^![]()

I like Raptors and having options is a good thing but it is really just an expensive toy that isn't practical.
I can have a Power Wagon that can go anywhere a Raptor can go and then some, and a side by side for the high speed stuff for the price of just the Raptor.

Then take your savings of $30-60,000, drop that into Trophy Truck level shocks and a supercharger and outrun almost every single Raptor out there :rolling:Explorin Sonoran wrote:I like Raptors and having options is a good thing but it is really just an expensive toy that isn't practical.

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
Also interesting is if you look at just the judges scores, Power Wagon is 2nd place not last.
The points challenge is a bit biased giving 50 pts to all trucks but the raptor who gets 100 pts for having rear tow hooks. ?
They also love the Raptor as a daily driver although clearly they sure didn't try to park that wide bitch in a city parking lot !
( I just got out of a raptor and parking was the worst)

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
Have you seen the rear tow hooks on the raptor? Think it should be safer pulling on the door handles. I've also broken no less that 3 Ford tow hooks trying to pull them Out of A ditch or field with my old pw's winch and one cost me a grill and windshield.

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
Raptors have all that "go" and no "stop". Shameful that an 8000-lb power wagon stops faster than a half ton aluminum truck.
If you read the off road section, you'll see that all the other trucks were carried through by their rear lockers, which weren't even needed in the PW.
Did anybody else notice the dyno test? Is it normal for a vehicle to put up such poor numbers on the dyno? I wouldn't expect to see the rated HP at the wheels out of any vehicle (drive train losses and marketing optimism), but the PW came up waaaay short of 400hp.

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
Apparently the trucks equipped with the 66rfe are hard to do good dyno pulls with. The computer gets wigged out when the rears arent moving with the fronts and starts cutting power and changing shift points. At least thats what the dyno place near my work told meLow_Sky wrote:Raptors have all that "go" and no "stop". Shameful that an 8000-lb power wagon stops faster than a half ton aluminum truck.

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
I couldn't bring myself to read half of it. This is painfully poor journalism. If you haven't read it don't waste your time. They did whatever they could to make the Raptor win. You can tell right away they don't know what they're doing when they said an IFS Toyota has more front ground clearance than a solid axle truck. Sure, if it's parked. Painfully bad.

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
lol Torsen is not a locking differential. These guys are complete amateurs.
Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
Torsen limited slip is better than an open diff, but not much. if they were "all that", other would have jumped on the band wagon. Lockers STILL rule !
Raptor is an over priced, soft, smooth riding go-fast truck. Great for soccer dads & people who don't really use their truck as a truck. Hell, even if you do what the commercials show, you run the risk of damage. Not sure if Ford fixed it yet but the frames (the rear most part of frame) were bending, doing less stressful things than the commercials show. Bending so bad, they contacted the bed to the cab & some even broke the rear windows as well. Once this happened, truck was junk. If you fixed it BEFORE it was damaged, then you were good to go, and just out the $734 for the parts, then add the labor. I think the bed needs to be removed to install it, not positive though.

You can literally see the frame bend. Built ford tough !

Re: Last place in an offroad challenge?!
A Power Wagon would go much further into difficult terrain than any of these other trucks could dream. That's a fact that an article about "off-road" seems to have completely missed. Just hilarious.

Just a small example of the quality of the article: They slammed the Power Wagon for being too tall, said they'd need a ladder since it was too much effort having to jump up into it.

It's a spam site. I doubt they even had the trucks they claim they had and that those are their pictures. Shitty articles all over that site. Just churning out trash to generate clicks. Not a real automotive blog for enthusiasts. Those guys are clowns in an office building churning out content.
It's just an SEO trap to send that sweet search traffic back to Cars.com.
