Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
Anyone have any pictures of their radio and antenna installs? I'm getting my technician license in a few weeks as well as a cb, scanner, and a ham radio over the next few months and wanted to start getting ideas on where to mount everything!

I'm planning on getting mine too. Lets see some pics. Looking for a nice low profile mimo myself.

Re: Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
I am running a Yaesu FT857d under my Passenger Seat.
Headunit ans Speaker is in the Dasboard in front of the Transfercaseselector.
I mounted the 2 Antennas on the TowMirrors via Adapter in the Mirror Joint.
10/11m Antenna is Sirio Turbo 5000
2m/70cm Antenna i dont know the Manufacturer anymore...
But
I have massive Ignition Noise on AM and dont know how to fix that....
You can go fast.
I can go anywhere.

Re: Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
Your ignition noise may be from a ground. Did you ground your radio(s) to the battery or the frame? Frame grounds can cause a lot of noise. Also placing your new antenna next to the factory antenna can cause noise as well. Maybe the mirror mount is too close? Need pics!

Re: Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
I run 2 extra Wires from the Radio to the Batterie.
And the Antenna that catches the ignition Noise is on the driverside Mirror.
I searched with a handheld scanner on Channel 9AM and thats exaktly the Frequence where the Ignition noise rumbles in my Radio with 9/+30.
Exact the most used Frequency for me on the Highway because every Truck is on 9AM here.
Nearly useless Radio in my Powerwagon.....pisses me off.....

And:
I disconnected the 10m/11m Antenna that catches the noise and atached a lobg Kable with another Antenna many Meters away from the car. Ignition Noise gets down the further i move away from the Car.
So definately my ignition has some sort of bad humor sending on 9am.....

Re: Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
If you have a magnetic base for your antennae or can rig something up, try putting your antennae on the roof as a test. I wonder if it is a ground plane issue.
Or your alternator or coil packs are specifically tuned to be electronic warfare devices...
That is weird.

Re: Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
Like i said. I can use a handheld Scanner listening on Channel 9AM and the Coil Packs making noise like hell. The further i go away, the less noise i hear.
If i only could be sure it stops with Coil Packs from MSD or any other Brand i would try that. But 600Euro to "try" that just to have a usabel HAM Radio and not knowing what happens.... That could be an expensive "try"

And the standing Wave Ratio on the Sirio 5000 is nearly perfekt.
So it is uncommon that the SWR is good and the Antenna has grounding issues.

That's interesting. I don't know how to test it but I have the MSD Blasters on my truck. If it's cheap I could do the test for you.

Just take your Ham Radio listening on AM if there is any Noise when the Engine is running Would be great to know if the MSD's make any noise

Glass-mount VHF/UHF antenna

Power (8AWG) from the battery, up the drivers side, to underneath the back seat

to the amp, use that terminal block to go out to the 8800 too. Signals (control head, ext.spk, and audio from the headunit) go up along the pass.side.

6P6C coupler from L-com for the mic, small ext.spk mounted behind that kickplate. USB coupler (also from L-com) for the headunit.

Control head mounts with what was a cheap suction-cup mount... pulled the suction-cup out and filled that pocket with epoxy, VHB foam'd it to the windshield. Doesn't move around at all now.

Motorola portable has its happy spot on the cupholder.

I have a cheap HAM HT. I do not have AM capability. I tried what I could last night but I can't hit the range you need. Any other way I can test for you?

Here's my CB mount. I'm just using a magnetic antenna for the time being, until I find a better idea or a permanent mount.

I like that. How did you mount it? I am hoping to avoid drilling the panel, but I may well have to. I tried using adhesives, but never had any luck.bryanh416 wrote:Here's my CB mount. I'm just using a magnetic antenna for the time being, until I find a better idea or a permanent mount.
Has anyone tried mounting to one of the bumpers? My work has a 7' tall parking ramp and I'm not able to add much height to the truck until I find another job. I'm thinking I may mount lower on the truck for that reason.

Re: Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
Anybody mount an antenna on the rear bumper? The parking ramp at my work is 7' tall so I can't add a lot of height to the truck right now. So as it is I have a magnetic antenna ready to go, but it seems like a pretty short term solution.

Buy one of the cool spring flex bases like Firestik usesLumberZach wrote:Anybody mount an antenna on the rear bumper? Re: Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
I have a 120" whip with a spring base mounted on a bed hole bracket. It is under my canopy so the bracket doesn't flex. I use 550 cord to keep it from whipping too much with the spring, and another piece of 550 for when I need to tie it down military style for the brush.

Re: Power Wagon CB and HAM Radios/Antenna Pictures
I've installed my ham radio at the bottom of the center console and now I'm trying to find a good spot to mount my antenna. I'm leaning towards the lip on the bed next to the cab. Any for-seen issues with reception and transmit? Not opposed to doing the hood mount but my hood gaps seem pretty tight and would wear the paint over time with the cable running through.
