No Aux switches for 2017??

Post by S3Rc51 » Mon Nov 14, 2016 6:10 pm

First off, Hello!! Names Matt, southern commiefornia. Been lurking for years, and had a pipe drea of buying a Power Wagon since they came with the G56. The day has finally come, in the coming days I will be factory ordering a 2017.

While I really wanted to order the truck in the Omaha Orange (still do), I got a dear in headlights look/response from almost every single dealer I spoke to, and except for one, nobody had any idea it could be done or about the 10 truck limit, even after (supposedly) talking to their sales and fleet managers. Mind boggling. The one stand out was Dennis Dillon; although the salesman I delt with was clearly new and I spent more time telling him what was available than getting anywhere (more of the same), I eventually ended up speaking to a sales manager who was able to quickly answer all of my questions. I've kind of given up on the Omaha Orange, as after talking to him and seeing the order sheet for myself, no low volume colors with Ram Box :(. Talked myself into my original color, trying to just ignore the truck in the reveal video and act like I never saw it.

So, I've been passed off to a (supposedly) more experienced salesman. He is now telling me that the aux switches can not be ordered with the Power Wagon. I saw the Upfitter Module on the order sheet for myself. If I'm not mistaken, and please correct if I am, the VSIM comes with the aux switches (but they can also be ordered separately)?? Has anybody successfully ordered a 2017 with the switches? Or atleast can anybody confirm that VSIM comes with them? I have zero use for the module, but if it includes the switches, that would seem to indicate that it is factory installable on the truck.

Thanks guys. If no response I'll probably bug the sales manager again, just don't want call him directly JUST to try and dispute his salesman's word, especially if I'm talking out of my a**, lol.

Think you might be the first one here to order a '17 so far.

AUX switches have never been available on the 2014+ PW.

Don't think they were avail on the 05'-09's either. I ordered mine & it was NOT an option, or I would have got it. I know the Fords have them avail, along with the brake controller.

:secret: This is the first I have heard of a 10 truck limit, just to get a certain color. :wtf:

The 10 truck limit is only for the fleet colors...Omaha Orange, western brown, Case IH red, New Holland Blue, deonator yellow, etc etc. Online I've only ever seen one power wagon in a low volume color, it was Omaha Orange. Looked like a tradesman, but had the graphics on the tail gate....not sure if they removed/deleted the rest, or just added the one to the tailgate. Was definitely a PW though.

Thanks for the tip on the switches, that answers my question. Must only be on the "normal" HD's. I wonder if anyone could speak up who has ever gotten the Upfitter Module, wonder if that's a way to make it happen. Not gonna hold my breath, and not going to stop me from ordering. Had the sales manager at one of the two dealers I'm narrowed down to at this point tell me that he thinks the switches are something that would have to be addressed after the truck is built. I know from my reading that the head unit has special programming for the heated seat controls that you lose, and the switches aren't a simple add after the fact, as they're part of the CANBUS computer controlled architecture. This all tells me he's not real familiar with it, and again, not gonna hold my breath in the least.

Sorry, a lot of that is just me thinking out loud. Figured I may as well post what I've found out in case somebody is looking for the same info and stumbles on this thread in the future.

 I'm sorry, but this whole color thing absolutely BLOWS !!! $50-$65,000 and you can't even get the color you want ??? :wtf: I mean, it's not like it is a special color that they don't stock or something, THEY ALREADY HAVE THE DAMN COLORS IN STOCK !!! I just don't understand this thinking AT ALL. :vomit:

You're telling me, absolutely asinine. Not sure if I mentioned it above, but what it really came down is it COULD possibly be done, might sit in the queue indefinitely until the ten truck minimum is met though. The real deal breaker was the RamBox...regardless of trim, it clearly states on the order sheet (page 63-65-ish of the Ram ordering guide is Power Wagon) that RamBox is NOT AVAILABLE with low volume colors. Shitty. I know it's a logistical issue...low volume truck, with a very low volume option (Ram Box), and an extremely low volume/special order fleet paint color...but still irritating.

I came to the conclusion that the RamBox was more important to me. Will be using the truck for work (as well as play obviously), so having that storage for tools without adding a tool box, and for storage when camping and what not is very desirable. Not too worried about the width, rarely carry anything so wide it sits on top of the wheel wells. The length is far more crucial for me, carrying a couple six foot ladders flush or longer ones hanging over the back without having a tool box constantly f***ing me around will be an awesome change.

So, I did pull the trigger on my dream truck almost two weeks ago when allocation officially opened for the new PW. Could of left my deposit earlier, but life got in the way and ended up waiting until they were actually taking orders. Can't wait, went with the gun metal/granite grey; original color I've wanted for years, just had to pretend I never saw that damned orange. Also told myself the F it, in 10 years when it looks like hell from work and play I'll have it painted Hemi Orange and do the graphics in a flat/satin black (the way they should be IMHO). It was hard to visualize the black graphics on grey, but after looking up a lot of Granite 1500 Rebels and Challengers with graphics I have a good idea of how it will look. Got all the options I wanted, and I few I didn't just to get a few more I did, hahahah. Dual alts and RamBox were a must, along with remote start. Went with the new Leather & Lux package for the cooled seats, keyless go and to ditch that dry ass tread-pattern seats (also came with a bunch of other stuff I wanted anyway....alarm, led lighting, power fold mirrors, tail gate camera, etc etc). Ended up checking waaaaayyyyy too many boxes, but I'm getting my dream truck (mostly) the way I wanted it, below invoice, and a good price on the Max Care Lifetime and dealer cost on accessories I want from the catalog. All in all not bad. Anxious to join the ranks here at PWR.

As a side note, anybody interested in buying an International Scout II project?? Gotta make some room in the next month :D

Congrats on the new PW. Post pic's when you get it. I can remember back in '08, that we thought that that was going to be the last year of the PW because of the low volume of sales. They was selling less then a 1000 a year then. Same for '09 too. Thought that there was not going to be a 4G PW.

Yeah, I've been following since then, lurked on here as well as the other Ram forums for years. Almost bought a used single cab with the 6 speed back in like '07 or '08, but just couldn't swing it. Remember how excited I was when I seen they were keeping the PW package, but was bummed they were dropping the G56. Same mixed feelings when I saw they were adding the 6.4, but then found out they were dropping the 4.56's.

I have that same thought in the back of my mind, can't believe they still offer this package; it may be a flagship off road package, but I feel like most of the ones I see on the road (very few) as well as the used ones were bought by people who have more money than sense, just see the crazy package and buy it, with no intention of using it or any real idea of what it actually is. The sheer number of lot-stock I see on the internet also speaks to how few of them get moved. I still see brand new 2015's on lots online. Love the new graphics package, before this I would of ordered it deleted, and glad to see they're adding to it, rather than scrapping it. But same as how you guys felt back in '08, I can't help but feel like I'm getting in on this truck right at the end, and it must be on its way out. Maybe not, I guess only time will tell.

Definitely will do though, and thanks man...can't wait!

I agree too, the Rambox was a must option for meas well. Ended up with Blue Streak as I have never owned any blue vehicle before. Also, like you I got "checkbox' happy and pretty much checked all the boxes except engine heater and the factory tonneau cover (for this I like some aftermarket options). Would have been real nice to get some of those "rarer" colors but I also didn't want to wait either. Ordered mine several weeks ago and dealer said was supposed to be ready to leave factory today. I'll be happy if I get it in the the first couple weeks of January.

I just checked this out. It's not compatible with the Leather and Luxury package. It also appears that Leather and Luxury has finally killed the Laramie PW.

It isn't available with Leather & Lux because it includes the Alpine radio, which doesn't play with the VSIM. Afaik Laramie PW will still be available, they're certainly out there right now (and were several weeks ahead of the regular/SLT PW's). Still dont know if Upfitter includes the switches or not for sure, but guessing not based off what I've read.

I'm kind of irritated with my dealer atm. Decided to go with them because of a combination of service and price. However, come to find out now, they jerked me around ordering pretty good. Kept calling fleet manager to check, was repeatedly told it wasn't available for order yet. Ended up not ordering until 12/13/16. Just a week or two later I start to see posts on the forum and even PW's for sale on eBay (not Laramie). Apparantly these guys had been placing orders for months, with firm orders as far back as September. I was 100% ready, down payment in hand, in October! Pretty irritated that I could have my truck right now if my dealer hadn't been jerking me around. My guess is that THEY didn't have any allocation, or didn't want to waste what they had on a factory order for whatever reason. Oh well, hoping SPP on RamForumz has some better news for me tomorrow...Been almost a month and all I've gotten is a VIN, no build date yet.

I ordered mine sometime in November, I got the VIN # a few weeks ago and now have been told the arrival date to dealer should be week of 1/30-2/4...as luck would have it my wife and I will be on a cruise that week but at least I'll have something to look forward to when I get home.

Yeah, typically coming home from a nice long vacation sucks... but that will be a game changer.

Congrats on the truck!!!!!!
That sucks about the Omaha Orange. I literally saw an Omaha Orange 2500 at the dealership yesterday.
TFLTruck has Bob Hegbloom on video saying that YOU CAN special order a Power Wagon in Omaha Orange. Id be raising holy hell if I couldnt get it. Id send old Bobby a link to that video and tell him to make it happen. Oh I would. :thppt:
However, I wont be having to do that.....
Omaha Orange was the color I originally wanted to order. ...until I saw it in Black. :notworthy:

So this is what I'll be getting.

Yes, Tradesman only and no ram boxes as option...
Love the black.. Love it!
I almost ordered one ('17) but found a low mileage cherry '15 that I bought... (Omaha Orange!)

Saw your post and was more than a little envious. Love the color, especially with the new Power Wagon appearance package. Thanks for info/affirming what I already thought.

Ramajama - I ordered 12/13 iirc, got my vin a few weeks ago as well from SPP on Ramforumz. According to his updates I'm scheduled for build on 1/30, guessing delivery in the last part of February. Trust me though, I barked WAY up the tree trying to get the Omaha Orange. Before placing the order with the fleet manager who I ended up dealing with at the dealer I chose, I was working with a sales manager nailing down pricing who went WAY above and beyond trying to make it happen. He was in contact with his FCA reps and was trying to get the truck built as tester/demo truck for me, and we got fairly close before it got shot down. I'd be suspicious that he was blowing sunshine, but I was forwarded several emails of his communications as he kept me in the loop. His efforts alone probably would of been enough to get me to buy from them, but once he got to less than $1000 off from the cheapest price I found (which was Dennis DIllon in Idaho...about a 800 mile drive back plus a plane ticket out there, and dealing with DMV and scaling the truck on my own) and offered me dealer cost on anything I want out of the Mopar catalog, it was no brainer. My irritation was/is mostly with the fleet manager who I think just gave me a sh*t explanation...I think THEY just didn't have allocation for their dealer to place an order until the next month (December).

As far as the black, I totally dig it, looks totally bad ass. I told myself long ago that I would never do black again though. It looks incredible when it looks good, but when it starts to show its age its a real PITA to keep up in my experience. Striking as hell though. If I didn't mention before, I settled on the Granite Crystal gun metal grey. It's what I always wanted, and although I like how the graphics pop on the silver, granite is what I landed back on. Still not the best for hiding pinstriping, but should be easier to keep looking good than the black for me. If I'm honest though, I already think I'll be getting it repainted in Omaha in a few years after it gets beat up a little bit, hahahah. After I thought about it, black may have been the better choice for a color change down the road, but who likes to think ahead ;) .

A couple pics of the new graphics on the Granite. Wish there wasn't a glare, can't really see the decals. There's a few decent dealer videos on YouTube now if you haven't checked recently.
