Factory Suspension Skid

So I banged up my steering stabilizer last time I was wheeling. Nothing serious, but it knocked the plastic cover loose (talk about a pain in the ass to get back on). While I was looking for pictures to see how the cover sits on the shock, I got to wondering why the steering stabilizer isn't protected to begin with. I found a thread where a 3500 owner installed a "factory" power wagon suspension skid. Part number 82210014 Image My question is, am I missing a skid plate since I don't have it? Image Or did they just stop putting them on the 4.5 gens? I found the skid for $100 on Amazon, does anyone know it it will just bolt on, or should I look in another direction to protect those areas?

As far as I know all power wagons come with the
Skid plate. I think you got jipped

My 16 doesn't have the skid plate like my 3 gen. But the steering damper is mounted up tight against that giant tie rod.

This was never meant for PW use, as the PW's sway bar is in the way.

Anyone know definitively if that skid will fit the later models, or should I play guinea pig?lol. $100 isn't too bad for a little extra protection.

Wonder when they stopped putting the skid plate on the PW with the new 3 link suspension? Or if they did at all? All of the older 5 link PW have the skid plate.

'14s were the first year they removed it, when they went to the new front end. '13s and older have them.

I doubt it will fit the newer axles. Here's my 2010 without the plate. About 4" to the left of the pumpkin, there is a tab welded to the axle tube for the plate to bolt to. There is also a tab across the lower control arm bracket on the passenger side has a thread clip on it. Then there's another spot it bolts to on the passenger side.

They ditched that skid plate at the same time they introduced the Center Axle Disconnect. Coincidence? I think not. You could probably modify it for use with a little cutting/grinding/welding.

For $100, I think it might be worth trying to mod it up. :D

That is ridiculous they deleted it. If I didn't have the skid plate on that I probably would have gone through 5 already. That skid plate has saved my bacon a few times.

Remember what mine looked like at Rausch Creek this year. It was bent up around the tie-rod.

I'm in favor of ALL of the skid plates. I have a bad habit of using them as part of the suspension while rock climbing...

Yeah this year I leveraged my control arm for balance. Skid plates are necessary if you use your truck for what it is intended for.

Seriously! I by no means do anything extreme in my truck, and I'm already seeing that area as a weak spot.

I wonder at times :wtf: are they (engineers and bean counters) thinking, why eliminate some thing as simple as that .

Yeah, shit DOES happen , even in day to day driving.
