TPMS issues

Post by Mike-H » Sun Jul 17, 2016 1:42 am

Anyone else having issues with their TPMS? Mine gave me a warning chime and flashing light with the message "Service TPMS". It still reads tire pressures. This is the second time it's freaked out on me. First time was right after I washed the truck. Thought water got somewhere it shouldn't have. Light went away after two days. Took it to the dealer for another issue and the said there was a bad sensor and a TSB they took care of. This time it happened driving down the road. No washing or rain in months.

Same thing has happened to me twice. I've read it's a fault in the system and can be cleared by a dealer with an RFH Replace. I have not done it yet, waiting to find a dealer that can lower the TPMS pressures first.

Radio Frequency Hub. All I know is the service tech plugs his laptop in, clicks on a module and lets the software reset everything and the problem is supposed to be fixed. I don't know yet because my TPMS light just stays on anyways! Haha. I took a picture of the light on even when the pressures were all correct just in case the dealer doesn't believe me when the time comes.

Thanks, kind of on the other end of the spectrum from the PW. Fast, light, and totally screwed if a rear tire is in the air... But she'll get you breathing fast as soon as you strap in.

The TPMS light, on my 2016 PW, has come on and stayed on twice, in 6,000 miles, even though my tire pressures were all correct at 60 front and 65 rear.
After 10, or so, restarts it clears the warning and stays off.

My t.p.m.s. light comes on also, for no reason. Tire pressures are fine, and the truck is brand new 2016 power wagon with 36 miles on the odometer when I drove it off the dealer lot. The tpms light came on at about 150 miles the first time, and I hi-tailed it back to the dealer. They fixed it,they said and with 5,000 miles on the truck now,the tpms light has came on,maybe 6 or 8 times since. The dealer is probly getting tired of me coming in,but each time they take a deep breath, hook up their laptop to it and try to work their magic. Great truck,I love it,and once in a while my wife actuallylets me drive it.

I had my TPMS act weird recently:

It blinked for a while and then stayed on solid for 2 days. Then everything was back to normal. Weird.

Mine flakes all the time. I figure its just conditioning me for the future tire sizes that wont ever hit 60 psi..

I would love to find a way to bypass the son of a bitch to the point where it wont alarm every damn time you turn the key. Mine has been telling me the front left is low and it's not. I even let air out and pumped it back up thinking maybe if I just mess with it will satisfy.

Can the TPMS be turned off? I traded my H2 wheels for my daughter's 2016 wheels and forgot about The TPMS. She told me the warning came on.

Has anyone turned there's off?

I tried unplugging mine and it didn't work. I wish someone with the electrical knowledge can build a plug and play module so we can unplug the sensor harness that goes into it and plug in a module that tells the receiver the tires are always in check. Hell, I'm gonna know if a tire is getting low with 9"'s of air between me and the ground...

There's a software upgrade for the RFH, but I have no idea if it's a fix for the problem. They did my 16 when I took it in for the discounted first oil change. I wasn't having any problems, so IDK what it was supposed to "fix".

Yeah I don't think so. Mine was supposedly updated the last time it went in about two weeks ago. And that was after it went crazy on me the first time. The last episode was just this weekend, which is after the update.

Chrysler has taken the ability to reset the limits of the TPMS away from the local techs. There used to be a way/procedure to reset the TPMS to a lower alarm setting, but apparently due to perceived liability issues, it is no longer available to the technician at your locale dealership.

My local tech, who is a very knowledgeable technician and had done several trucks, verified that for me one day a while back. One of the disadvantages of having a new one I guess.

Yes, Witech 1 is the software they had 6 months ago that allowed us to change it. Witech 2, which was a mandatory update for the techs, does not.

The light will not reset until you air them up to 60 and maybe even drive around a bit.

Once you cave and just set the pressures for optimal tire wear, you'll get used to the light and you'll know why it's on instead of wondering "why the F is that thing flashing at me?"

As far as the startup warning, I look at it as the truck performing a pre-drive checklist, informing me of my tire pressures so I know it didn't have a slow leak overnight. Press the button and we're rolling.

If it were just the yellow light, that would be fine but the flashing and the ding every time until you back out of the message is annoying.

Flashing and chiming sound annoying. In my 2015 Laramie the amber light comes on and the tire pressure screen comes up in the dash when I start the truck. I scroll through different pages on that screen regularly, so pushing a button to clear the tire pressure warning isn't intolerable.

So... is the general consensus that the TPMS cannot be reset? I just contacted a friend at my local dealer. He confirmed that they now have "Witech 2" and asked if my truck had a "light load" button on the dash. I said it did not and my understanding was that Chyrsler stopped putting the light load button on the trucks a few years ago... He did not have an answer regarding a work around to factory set TPMS pressures. This bugs me.. Are we all SOL when it comes to resetting this stupid feature??? Any additional info on this?

You have it right, and there are no fixes that I am aware of. You can thank the increasingly stupid and litigious society that we live in for this.
