6.4 squeak?
6.4 squeak?
Hey guys. Just got a 2016 PW about a month ago. I've read posts about the Hemi "tick" but that's not what I've got exactly. Like the topic said its more of a squeak. Does it on start up when cold. Goes away when it's warmed up. Not terribly loud but definetely noticeable. I'm guessing it might get worse when winter rolls around. Little over 1k miles on it. Most stuff I've read talk about a "tick" or the wrist pin issue. I'm pretty sure that's not what I've got but just wanted to see if anybody has any new info on this. Here is a YouTube video link I found that is the exact noise I'm talking about

Re: 6.4 squeak?
Mine makes some kind of chirp/squeak like it might be the belt or a pulley, but only when it's in gear. I haven't tried to chase it down yet.

Re: 6.4 squeak?
Sounds like horsepower trying to unwind to me. Ive never heard my truck sound that quiet before when i first start it. Sometimes its almost embarrassing how obnoxious it is.
I think its just how these motors sound. But, i really dont know much about it yet either

Re: 6.4 squeak?
Mine sounds similiar, I figured it was a slight pulley misalignment, never worried about it much

Now I'm just embarrassed I didn't realize this before.Reloaderguy wrote:It's all the awesome trying to escape.

But yeah I'm not that worried about it. Got some free oil changes from the dealer when I bought it so I'll prolly ask them to take a listen, although I'm guessing I'll get "it's normal" or "we don't hear the noise"
Re: 6.4 squeak?
I tried to listen to my 6.4 in the Scat Pack but can't hear the engine over the bad ass factory exhaust.
Sorry, can't help but yours sounds like a typical belt squeak to me.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Re: 6.4 squeak?
The best explanation I came across had something to do with the material of the exhaust system, want to say the manifolds themselves, which result in the noise until warm.
