How tall is a BFG 34x10.50r17? Not 34" !

I have been looking for new tires to replace my 2005 spare(!) and 4 2007 BFG's. Wanted to get something slightly taller, slightly narrower for better gas mileage. Ran across the new BFG a/t KO2 ....34x10.50r17. Perfect. Even 3 pounds lighter per tire. Just what I need.

Well, 34" is only 33.5" when it comes to tires. O.K. expected that. Got my set of 5 mounted and balanced and went home. Dealer won't install on truck because not stock size. So, I put wheel on floor with yardstick to measure. :excited: 32 7/8" tall . :box:  Yes, that is all you will get.

I want to get same lawyer who is suing Starbucks for $5 million because drink didn't have 24 ounces of coffee because of ice. Just give jury a wheel and a yardstick and let them decide.

:wtf:

You know the bottom of your tire deflects when it's on the ground, right? A 34" tire isn't really going to be 34" high at normal pressure, installed. At the same pressure, a narrow tire will deflect more than a wider tire to achieve the same contact patch to support the weight of the truck.

Measured before they went on the truck. Plus , tire shop must have inflated to 80PSI or something . It pegged my gauge.

Height is measured on a specific width rim. Wide rims equal shorter tires, If you took at the specs, our rims are at the wider end of the recommended numbers.

Regardless, BFG tires are notorious for running small. The new 37's dont even measure 36", and my 35's barely measured 34". That is with NO WEIGHT of a vehicle on the tire.

Put 40's on it then, hahaha

Measure the radius on the rim laying on the ground. That's what I do to check for clearance prior to ordering. If you can clear 17" then you should be good with a 34, regardless of the total height of the tire, the radius is what counts for clearance. You can still have a 17" radius but from the ground to the center can be much less, like 15", especially running low air.
Hypothetical size mentioned...

Yeah, exactly. Its no issue as long as you get the next size tire up. If you want a true 35, get the 37's.

But, a true 34x10.5 would be pretty frikin sweet... but of course the dropped the ball on that one too.

Do you have any pictures? I've been looking to put new tires on my PW and am in between 285/75r17s and the 34x10.5's.

Don't know how to post pic. Probably wouldn't notice much difference unless you knew to look for one.

I like the way they look. Just slightly narrower than stock BFG. I also like the look of the KO2's. Would look even better if a little taller!
They are more expensive than 285/70r17 but I was paying for the extra height which I didn't get. Also hoping for some improvement in gas mileage...taller, narrower, lighter.

That is a perfect size, and much better than the so called 34x10.5... but unfortunately they dont offer it in the new KO2's that I know of, yet anyway.

I think this is why I'm going to buy 285/75r17 Toyo MT. Seems to be right at 34" from what I've read.

Yep, thats a wonderful size/style tire. As long as you want an mt.

They have the same size in an AT. That's what I have on mine. So far they are working for me.
