The Inside of a Power Wagon Wheel

There seems to be a lot of discussion about what is so special about Power Wagon wheels but I have never seen pictures of the beads. I have my wheels broken down so I thought I would take some pictures of the outer and inner beads. These wheels are off of a 2016 model year truck.

And the axle will give before the rims!

The pw rims are heavier than the regular alloys. It's noticeable when you hold them side by side. 3-5 lbs I would guess. Reloaded guy can you throw one on a scale. I'll throw a regular dodge alloy from a 12 on a scale tomorrow and we will maybe get a real number

Make sure it's lbs, not kilo's. I hate to convert.

I have got a bunch of trashed 2500/3500 3rd gen non PW rims lying around. I'll have to take a look to see how they compare to the PW wheels. I blew beads and broke wheels all the time with them. Total junk. My 2nd gen 1500 wheels were much better (broke a few, but seldom lost a bead).

21lbs ish on the 2500 alloys. Is says 22ish I know but I was holding the rim gently at an angle to get the pic and it bumped up a hair

I have 24 lbs for my 2006 rims and 34 lbs for the spare steel rim.

Thanks for posting these pics, Reloaderguy. I'm still on the factory tires, and haven't had a chance to see the inside of our wheels yet.

I think the older wheels weigh a lot more. My postal scale says .4oz.

I have a copy of the 07 wheel specs from Mopar. The PW wheel weight is right at 23.0 lbs, all the other aluminum wheels are between 23-24 lbs.

I think the new wheels weigh more because the hubcaps are integrated into the wheel instead of the old large removeable section.

So does this make a 2005 Made in America Alcoa wheel the heavy weight ? :)

Just wanted to revive this thread to say it doesn’t look like the newer style (black) wheels have as much bead as the older wheels, this wheel is from my 2019...
I might have to consider swapping for an older Alcoa set...I like the look of the silver wheels a bit more too

^ man that's a bummer, doesn't look different at all from a normal bead.

I noticed that the Method Trail series wheels have something similar to the PW bead retention nub, plus some biting ridges at the bead itself. This isn't a recommendation for their wheels, as I don't actually own a set, but curious how much it helps retain the bead in low pressure situations.

Better than nothing but there still I isn't a "raised inner (safety) bead"
