This was the first time I had loaded any kind of weight into the bed, and it really wasn't all that much. Dry aspen firewood rounds, a little over half a cord I suppose. My drive home is on winding mountain roads, 35 miles worth. You can feel how soft the suspension is when you raise the center of gravity a bit with a load like this. Not bad but you can definitely see why the payload rating has been reduced on these trucks. The truck did great, just know that when you start loading it up, it will definitely handle different.

My '05 has a max. payload of 2,210lb.s. My camper weighs 1200lb.s , add about 500lb.s of gear. Tires @ 60lb.s and airbags @ 35lb.s. You definitely know it's there but I can drive as fast as any posted speed limit, even on mountain roads.
Going slow over obstacles like ruts, speed bumps or driveway approaches at an angle, it will start rockin'.

I doubt if I'd had more than 700lbs in the bed of mine except for a few times hauling firewood. Never really noticed it, but I did air the tires up a bit when hauling wood. The stuff I haul back and forth to my cabin fills the bed, but it just takes up room rather than weigh a lot.

Had 4,000 lbs of top soil in the bed of mine. At the local lawn and garden store. I told the guy, I needed a load of top soil. The idiot used a front loader to load the top soil. I was on the axle stops.

Don't really know about "handling", but the truck rides a lot softer with 600lbs of Poo in the bed...

I haven't been brave enough to load the sled in my new truck. I bent the tailgate pretty bad on my 3rd gen even with a 2x4 framed piece of plywood for it to sit on. I just suck it up and pull the trailer...
