another locker thread

My service 4wd light is on and my rear locker light is blinking on my 05. The smart bar has been replaced and didn't help and I clean my magnets and change the fluid regularly. I'm going to be changing the fluid soon and I'd like to test the locker to see if it's the problem. Do I just hook 12 volts up to it and see if it moves, and what wires to hook it to. I believe it has 4 going in if I remember right. I haven't changed the tcase sensor yet so I was going to do that for the hell of it. If anybody with prior experience can tell me where to put a meter or any advice I'd appreciate it. If heard about setting the magnet gap and don't know what that is about. I got stuck in very soft grass because my front left tire wasn't even turning and dug down to the bumper before I drug the winch out.

When you change the diff fluid. Have both rear tires off the ground. With the diff cover off. Turn the key to on, but don't start the engine. Put the transfer case in 4Lo. Have someone engage the rear locker as you watch the locker it's self. See if you can see if the locker ring moves. Look at the distance between the magnets too. That should change too.

I thought that with the service 4we light on it won't engage.

When my old truck did that it was a bad sensor. The bad thing is that it's part of the coil and he diff has to come out to change it.

That's why I was thinking about just putting 12 volts to the lockers and see if it engages, if what rusty said to do works that would save me some time but I didn't think it would lock in if the service 4wd light was on. It would be nice if it wasn't part of the locker that was bad .

Does anyone know the transfer case position sensor part number?

Odds are your lockers are fine. Hard wire them and be done with it, pull the plug from behind the locker switch to get rid of the flashing lights and learn to live with the SERV 4WD light.
At least you know the lockers will lock up almost instantly without the sensor BS getting in the way. The sway bar disconnect will still work fine also.

I should be able to measure resistance on the magnet and volts from the wires right? Is the magnet and the actuator different things and I can jumper the wire on the plug to eliminate the lockers for trouble shooting right?

The Transfer Case Position Switch usually doesn't go bad because of an electrical failure so nothing may show. The gear indicator is a spring loaded plunger that starts binding and sticks when bad and gives a incorrect gear position reading to the computer.
Try removing the position switch and push the plunger in if it is not smooth and even and binds in spots it's bad.

What about how to troubleshoot the rear locker?

This is why your lockers need to work every time. Hardwire them!
