Carli Ball Joint Porn

Post by AceMan » Sat Mar 05, 2016 1:56 pm

I just received a box of goodies. I thought to share them.
:-)

Side note, anyone know the part number and good brand for hub bearings?

Edit: I added additional pics, and also wanted to point out, I bought this stuff from George, 8 Lug Gear. :-)

As for hub bearings I would say free spin kit. But if it's not a daily driver then it's no big deal.

Looks good Ace! I just did balljoints and u-joints on my PW last weekend. 3-1/2hrs later and it was a new truck again! I would have like to go Carli (or Dynatrac), but I just can't justify the price and I honestly don't mind changing balljoints, so if I get 60k miles out of these ones I'll be happy.

A friend who is a dealer tech, will install them for me for $200, including the bearings and U-joints.

He told me about SKF making OEM bearings. I may just order them through the dealer.

He told me that 2014 and 2015 PWS have a recall on the frame side track bar mount. The welds are falling off. Whomever has one, should inquire about it soon as possible

It took me awhile to amass the money to do this. I wanted to get a new Carli track bar with the Johnny joints to relate my older Carli track bar that uses poly bushings, but I can't afford another $400, so I ordered new bushings for the frame side. I may get that later, maybe even before Rausch.

The recall is for the standard 2500, I just took my 2014 PW in last week for the recall and the dealer had to contact Chrysler because the bracket they were supposed to put on did not match what was on the truck and wouldn't line up. Chryslers response was the PW should not be on the list and they are trying to correct the recalls for them. I was given a letter from Chrysler stating this. Since I was at the dealer I decided to see what the difference was in the frame track mount bar mount between the PW and a standard 2500, and there is a significant difference. The power wagon bracket is longer ( I suspect because of the lift) and designed different to allow for the articulation. The standard 2500 is attached to the frame differently with an added bracket that would not allow the track bar to move as far as the PW does. Just another thing proving that we don't just drive 2500's with lockers and a winch.

Know on the 3G's. The frame for PW's and 2500's had different part numbers. Bet it's different part numbers for the 4G's and 2500's too

Nice catch on the PW differences and the recall. He may not have been aware of the difference since he probably didn't get one in yet, other than just the standard 2500.

Thanks!!!

SKF actually developed the unitized bearings for these trucks, they received some kind of industry award for the design, or so I've heard. Timken makes great parts as well though. I doubt you could go wrong with either.

Thanks. I think I will, too. Pep Boys has the SKF part, under the PowerLine name, but the box is SKF and the SKF part#. THey have it as $419.99 each. Amazon is $197. I called cust service and they told me I can go to the store to talk to the manager for a price match. Nice. :-)
