I am ordering Diablo Custom tune with Cold Air??

I recently acquired my 2005 PW and took it off-road park already and it did great and better than I could have hoped for.
Downside is that over the last 1000 miles I keep seeing just 12~12.5MPG on the overhead module.
My thinking is simple. Perhaps increasing my MPG to 13~15 MPG. Can it be possible with a simple Diablo custom tuner along with K&N filter and picking up a muffler to weld in place of stock one too.
Wishful thinking on my end?
I know at least it would sound cooler

I would recommend not getting a k&n filter, a dry element filter will perform just as well and protect your engine better. AFE makes a really good filter that is serviceable and will last. Between an intake catback and tune I'm thinking you can pick up 1-2 mpg or a little better no problem. When I first got my truck it had an intake muffler stock tune and tires and I could do 15 highway and 12 city. You just have to not hoon around lol

Well, I can keep it 65 MPH on Freeway and go very easy on the streets and yet my MPG's hoover at the same low 12's MPG.
I definitely will do the tune and the weld in place flowmaster.
Thanks,

Best i've ever seen is a little over 14.... unloaded, down the mountain, with a tailwind.
13's are common with a light load, 65 in the mountains.
12's average (sled+gear, highway).
8-10 with my trailer (steel 2-place enclosed, +sled/gear).
K&N intake, exhaust's getting reworked very soon (terribad flowmaster dual on there, going to a single 3" magnaflow and doing it right). No programmer (yet).

12-12.5 average sounds about right. i had an 05' pw with headers, catback, and cold air. not worth the money for the minimal gain in mpg, especially if you acquire a lead foot taste. had a super chips tuner on it too and it wasn't worth it either.

I would be thrilled with 12mpg. My '05 QC Auto has given me 9.7 (uncorrected) and about 10.0 (corrected for three different tire sizes) over its 10-year life. I have an Injen CAI, Banks Monster catback with new Y-pipe, and recently added the Edge Evo 87 Econo tune. I am now at 9.2 (uncorrected) since adding the econo tune. The only time I ever got 12mpg on this truck was the weekend I bought it and drove 400 miles home at low speeds to break it in. Count your blessings, because you won't be counting your money.

I thought bad gas mileage came standard on power wagons lol, anyway I had an Airaid intake tube on my old 05 pw and I got 12 to 12.5 from 11 to 11.5 with the factory setup, don't really know much about the programmers or how much they will help, I always heard to stay away from them. Just remember you got 456 gears in it not really geared for good gas mileage, geared for kicking a$$ lol

Run, do not walk away from using a K&N. That is the single worst thing you can do to your truck unless you like passing 20X the dirt a paper filter does...
Mileage... buy a newer one, mine gets 15-17.

I was somewhere around 11mpg average bone stock, now with stock intake, stock exhaust, Diablo and 37"s I hover right at 14mpg daily driving. The bigger tires helped the "highway" gear, easily get 15-16 traveling. The low gears and small tires is the most hurtful on the miles per gallon.

got a couple thousand lbs on the hook? :dunno: Does seem like something's wrong if you're not getting at least double-digits with unloaded/around-town driving. Everything getting up to temp (Engine/coolant, transmission)?
Buddy and I, my trailer, two sleds, fuel/gear, tools/parts for a week of riding...
...see those flags? 30-40m/h headwind for most of the trek across Wyoming...

I know mine does not have the MDS so thats not it. The Yokos I'm running are fairly light and definitely more aerodynamic than a knobby, plus I have a top that's probably good for close to 1mpg on the hwy. I'll be pulling a tractor around with me this weekend and I'm sure it'll drop to 8 or 9 but we'll see.

I cant thank you all enough for your input.
I honestly thought I could improve the MPG some...lol
Well, since I have now 35's that measure up to 34in true height on truck I will check GPS while driving and would only get the tuner if the speedo is off.
Thanks again,
bigC
trying to stretch to make sure no rubbing.

It's a good chance it's spot on now, mine speedo was a little over with stock tires and almost dead on the money with 35's. a 34" would have put it right on.
