Front frame offshoots?

I have a 2015 PW. On the front of the frame, about 18" in from the front, there are two frame rails attached to the main frame that drop roughly a foot straight down.
They don't appear to be connected to anything other than the frame itself. I am curious as to their intended purpose. Anyone that knows care to explain?
I am looking to use them as a possible connecting point for a front skid plate I had left over from my Jeep Grand Cherokee.
If I can find some mounts of some type designed to bolt on those, it might make modifying the plate and/or mounts a breeze.
I also thought I might remove the black air dam under the bumper if/when I mount the skid, thus picking up some approach angle and gaining some protection.
Thoughts?

I am wondering the same thing, I was thinking that they are for a snow plow mount...

Some aftermarket bumpers use them for frame to bumper mount points, but they are to prevent running up & over smaller cars. The air dam cleans up the look, I removed it & didn't like the look so I put it back on.

I read somewhere (I think it was AEV bumper installation instructions) that those are for snow plow mounting.

Well considering the PW is technically not rated for a snowplow and all of the snowplow companies stick to the same, I'd say that's not correct. It's a DOT crash implement... I took that shit off of mine anyway. Looked like something to get me hung up on a stump offroad.
