Just recently noticed the manifold leak on my 06. Upon inspection ican see the gap and what looks like 3 or 4 shims. So I'm assuming its been done before. Im not original owner. Truck had 98000klm whrn i got it. Should i replace the manifolds? I know there must some broken studs.
is this a big job? Can i do myself?
Thanks .

Re: manifold
Most likely you have one or more broken manifold studs and a damaged gasket it's fairly common on 5.7 Hemi's it requires replacing the broken bolts/studs and a new gasket. It can be done but is not super easy if you have to drill the broken studs and have never done it before. Also there is a specific sequence for putting the bolts back in and torquing them down. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but I took my truck to the dealer it cost about $500 to fix.

Re: manifold
Thanks Coder. $500 for one side or both?
I watched the video on another post where they weld a nut on the broken stud and spin out. No drilling.

Re: manifold
I paid to have my done by a pro. Had broken studs and a warped manifold and he is still complaining about how hard it was to remove one of the broken studs. It apparently broke off below the mating surface and he tried the welding trick but could not get a weld that would take enough torque and still had to drill and helicoil it. It's only been a couple of weeks but it seems to be working and the truck is a lot quieter when cold.
