Seven years ago today...

Post by cruz » Tue Aug 07, 2012 7:57 pm

Seven years ago today I brought my PW home with 95mi. on the odometer. :D
Four months before that I first saw the new 2005 PW in FourWheeler magazine and knew that I'd get one someday. Fast foward four months ... My '96 Dakota had 85000 mi. on it and was not running quite right, ended up being it had only 75 & 80 lbs. compression in two cylinders.
I'm now faced with an expensive bill just to tear it down to find the problem and then another expensive bill to fix it.

While wandering around the dealership, out on the back lot I spotted something ... a brand new fully loaded PW, that some guy special ordered (in the color I wanted and more options than I would have ordered) but did not take delivery. One thing led to another and with the factory incentives being offered at the time I could get it for $ 38,700.00 . We agreed on the price and I went home and arranged the credit union financing and came back to take delivery the next day. When I come to sign the paperwork and take delivery, they told me that the rockrails, winch kit and Power Wagon bedliner were not on the original invoice and it would be another $2000.00. I told them to forget the deal and I'll go over the hill to San Jose (lots of competing dealerships in the Bay Area) and buy another one, the sales manager came back madder than a wet hen but agreed to throw them in at no charge. :D

So here I am at seven years later, with 39,000mi. on the odometer, original BFG ATs ( maybe I'll get another 2k out of them ) and my 7/70 finally expired.

Other than the fan clutch failing @ 9300mi. (relpaced on warranty) I've had NO problems, no death wobble, no winch problems (I did the thermal bypass), no locker or swaybar problems, no serv 4wd lights flashing, NADA. I'm still using the original battery!

Other than the MPG (which I new going in would be lousy) , 10mpg around town and upwards of 15 to 16mpg on long freeway runs, I'll say that my Power Wagon is the BEST pickup (#8) I've ever owned and I couldn't be HAPPIER :D

P.S. It's the only vehicle that I've owned since I got it.

Good to hear, my PW has been a good truck for me as well, though not quite as trouble free, still best truck I have ever had. It's # 5 for me and the first Dodge.

Nice! Still loving mine....even though I haven't had mine near as long. It's been running just fine so far and I plan to keep it for as many years as I can. I'm sure you're of the same mind. For most PW owners....it's the Holy Grail of trucks! Glad yours is still going strong!

Cruz, Congrats buddy, but you need to drive the truck a bit more. I got mine almost the same time and I have 145K on mine. :)

BTW still the best deal in the world. I love reading the sticker on the truck. Just reminds you how great it is.

Congrats again.

pdavey - I love my 7mi. roundtrip commute. Do you guys remember the "Sequentially Numbered POWER WAGON" fiasco?

2012 PW ST - Keeping it stock was more out of circumstance than design. Between warranty concerns and just making the payments and keeping gas in the thing didn't leave a lot of cash for mods. Also nothing has failed or broke, but when things do, I plan on upgrading to better parts. The only mod so far was the Air-Lift bags for my camper.

I've been modding vicariously thru you guys.

Yea it was in pretty good shape. I took care of it for the most part. Still miss that black beauty. Someone in Manheim, PA got it. But I can't find them on the Internet anywhere. I think the dealer sold it for around $26,900. It was listed at $29,900 and they gave me $19,500.

Yeah, I hear you on the mods. Still lots to be said for just leaving it very stock. I read you had added the bags which are a worthy addition for sure.

Glad yours has been so trouble free.

Not sure if you remember me ranting about that same thing while I was in 29PALMS a few years back, but a Young Marine had just bought a PW (USED) and when I spoke to him and asked him about the winch and why it was not there, he informed me the stealership said the same thing to him and removed the winch. I had called the dealership and told them that I was going to do my best to have them put on our off limits establishments for screwing over a Marine. i also called Chrysler, but they would not do anything about it which made me pretty  I mean :wtf: why would someone do that?

Bought my new '05 seven years ago this month. Had to fly to Sacramento from L.A. to pick it up at the dealer in Roseville because there were none in So Cal, Las Vegas, or southern Arizona and dealers were not doing any trades. Now at 31,000 miles (because I drive the old GMC whenever possible) and it is by far the best of all the trucks (6) that I have owned, but it's also the newest of the bunch. My only real gripe is the fuel mileage (about 10 LTD). Truck has been extremely reliable and very practical for my use. I keep my trucks a long time, but this truck is forever.

WOOOOHOOOOO truck is paid off !!!!!!! Thats the good news. Ordered a new car for my daughter, thats the bad news. We figured we did not want to have to worry about her driving in the snow or breaking down while going to college, so we got her this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AAFlSwnsOM We got it in Orange with the CVT (which also has paddle shifters & 6 preset "gears") i guess it is like a manumatic ??? Tried to talk her into the manual but couldn't.

And I have one more payment on my truck the end of next month. :D

Yes. It has 8.7" of ground clearance. Figured no breakdowns or worrying about the weather in that for her. Cool little car. May be getting another one for my wife & me next year when her car is paid off.  I hate to buy foreign, but there is nothing like it in that price range offered by American Manufacturers. They continue to ignore the obvious market for awd/4wd cars. I can buy 2 of these for the price of one awd Taurus.

I've heard that before from friends. I kind of like the Jeep GC, but they are pricey compared to Subaru, etc.
