2015 power wagon new advice on aftermarket wheels and tires

Post by 2015powerwagon » Tue Feb 03, 2015 2:59 pm

looking at ordering wheels and tires very soon on my new 2015 power wagon , not sure on what offset to order I am going with either the new toyo r/t 's of the new bfg a/t ko2's both in a 35x12.5x18 and was looking at the fuel octane wheel in black 18x9 , in the 8x165.1 bolt pattern they come in a -12 , +14, or +20 offsets . I am leaning towards the +14 offset . since I have been told my stock pw wheels are 17x8.5" with a + 18mm offset . I want the wheel to look wide but not too stick out pass the stock fender flares . any advice would be appreciated tks

I have there +1's on there now with the BFG ATKO 2 35 12.50 18. Mine stick out a little more than I would like. The +14's or +20's will work with that tire.

You are going to have to trim some plastic and the bottom of your fender flares (if you have flares).

U need the +20s if u don't want to trim. I have +20s and Nitto TG MTs so they are a true 12.5" tire.. I have a good .5" or more of clearance. Still will put a 1.5" level on it.

My recommendation is keep the stock wheels (they are forged aluminum and very very strong) with your choice of 35x12.5x17 tires the Toyo RT's are an excellent choice.
Vehicle: 2007 Power Wagon Quad Cab - Factory Options (Inferno Red, Premium Cloth Bench Seat, Light Group, Automatic Transmission, Leather Steering Wheel)
Suspension: Carli 3" Hemi Coils, Carli Control Arms, Carli King 2.5 Pin-Tops, Carli Stainless Steering Stabilizer, Carli Trackbar | Synergy 1" Rear Shackle
Performance: Magnaflow Muffler | Magnaflow Y-Pipe
Wheels/Tires: Yokohama X-A/T 35x12.5x17
Steering/Drivetrain/Axles: Carli Front Diff Guard | Dynatrac Ball Joints | Mopar HD Steering Gear
Miscellaneous: Line-X Bedliner | Locker Bypass Switch | Mopar Rock Rails | Odyssey Extreme 65-PC1750T | Performance Friction Brake Pads | Weathertech Digital Fit Mats | Winch Thermal Protection Bypass

Hey y'all, first post here. Have an 05' 1500 QC with 37's and am trading it in on a 15' PW ASAP.

Now to the question: I'd stick as close to stock offset as possible. You will have the least rubbing that way. Offset is the one to look at and not backspace since offset works with any width wheel. If stock wheels are 8" and you get 9" wheels with just -12mm (roughly 1/2") less offset aftermarket wheels you'll be sticking out 1" and have the same backspace as stock. That may work or not depending on tire width. Different suspension systems between the trucks I realize but I have other 4WD vehicles and the factory offset is what you want for the tallest tires possible without rubbing as long as they are not considerably wider than stock width. If you want much wider tires than stock, you'll want less offset and you'll likely need a lift or have to do some trimming/hacking to avoid rubbing. With a 2" wider tire on a wheel with the dimensions in the example I used above - your tires will be out 1.5" more than stock and .5" in more than stock. You can get a nice, wide stance with less offset and skinnier tires.

That's what my plans are for my PW. Going to try and stick with the same width wheel or at the most 1/2" wider and no wider than 295's (about 12").

Wide tires are sweet in sand and mud and look great, both my vehicle's have them but they are MPG killers for sure. Much more so than some extra height.

I have stock wheels with 37x12.50/20's on my 1500 with no rubbing at all. Just a 2" torsion bar crank to level it, no other lift, front or back at all. I've run this combo since the day I bought it new 10 years ago.
