Different way of mounting Power Wagon Sliders

Post by leo72987 » Thu Jan 22, 2015 2:08 pm

Hey guys as you know the hardware kits for these trucks can't be found... I went to my local Uhuals and they couldn't help me at all especially with the 3/8th offset carriage bolt plates... My last resort is having them welded.... There are no machine shops by me the closest is over an hour and they don't deal with small "residential orders". Here are my thoughts and please give me your opinions... My understanding of those carriage bolt plates is to prevent the bolts from spinning to all you to tighten them.. My thoughts are to use grade 8 hex bolts and use jb weld on the heads and fish them through the frame with the fish wire... All the bolts to cure to the frame for 6 hours and the zip the nuts on with an impact gun. Does anybody see an issue with this? These sliders are not going to be taken off again once there on HAHA.

Just found this stuff I guess it's supposed to be the Ferrari of bonding agents? It's called Dev Con?

That is what I have been told i'm pretty much leaning towards buying this stuff. I mean if i'm understanding the purpose of the little carriage bolt plates it's just to allow you to tighten the nut. If I cover the head on of the Hex bolt using Dev Con from what I read it will pretty much fuse the bolt to the frame and do the same thing haha.

If youre not using lock nuts the impact will do it without securing the head.

If you're out of warranty, weld them.
I'm just along for the ride...

I will say IMO for my experience, I am glad the RRs are not welded on the frame. I need to remove them so I can have better access to clean and repair them. I'm taking mine off in the next month or so to do some repairs and refinish them. I'm going to call my friend to check and see if the machine is up yet. I'm moving to a new shop in about a month so it's been crazy the past 2 months.

Another thing about the plates is they act as a washer and distribute the load across a larger area to prevent the frame from warping around the bolts or "pull through"

I guess you could say I'm a bit off center.....:D

Ya im looking at it the same way i would prefer to be able to take them off. I was afraid that those brackets were meant to distribute weight... Let me know if you think you could get a set made up im def a customer haha.
