I thought it was a good article. And very interesting as to what happened to the Cummins 5.0. Even though Chrysler helped develop it, they nixed it due to not providing any advantage over the 6.7, and the fact that Nissan and Toyota will be using it now.
If this was already shared, let me know and I'll remove it.
Ram had 3 diesel options for the Power Wagon, but they stuck with the 6.4 gas burner only, for now.

Well dang. At least they did hear the cry. I wonder if a high output or upfitted ecodiesel would be an option? But with the price of that in the 1500 I doubt it.

Yeah, a diesel and 8 speed trans in the future would be purdy sweet. Offering a manual trans would also be a winner.

Around 500-550 lb ft of torque & an 8 speed auto w/G56 type gear ratios or a 6 speed manual w/g56 ratios is what we need for a PW that is a true HD truck.

options would be:
inside of bed mounted spare (up against the rear side) tire & rear winch & bumper.
" " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " & aux gas tank w/skid plate.
expedition bed cage/rack.
interrior roll cage.
My fear is: everything is so friggin expensive now, I will never be able to afford a new truck again. Hell, the Colorado ZR-2 concept vehicle will be about $46-50k !!! A nicely loaded one is $36k now----add front & rear lockers, skid plates, special bumpers w/folding tow hooks, KING remote reservoir shocks, a winch, upgraded drivetrain & a Dura-Max diesel & it will be $46-50k. Even that may be out of my reach !!!

twosticky, that zr2 concept would be north of $50,000. A diesel PW would be north of $60,000.

So am I the only person happy with the Hemi in the Power Wagon? I'm on my second HD Hemi and I've always felt it to be more than enough motor for what I do. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the new 6.4L in my Power Wagon, but when you combine the 4.56 gears with the 5.7L Hemi I feel like if it's too heavy for my truck I don't want to have to tow it. Plus with my daily drive of 6 miles to work, then 6 miles home, I fear all I would do is kill a CTD from lack of warm up time.

No I'm with you I love the Hemi in my 2013. I have a 2012 6.7 with the manual trans and transfer case and it is a pulling beast but for day to day driving the power wagon is much more fun to drive handles curves and off road better. The main reason I bought a 6.7 in 2012 was for the manual trans if the G56 would have been offered with the Hemi I would have got it instead. I almost didn't get my PW because the lack of being able to the the G56. I'm pretty good friends with the owner of a Dodge dealership and he is a member of the board for Chrysler and I told him that I know of several people that would by G56 gas trucks if they offered them again. He said he keeps putting it in the suggestions when asked at the board meetings and it keeps getting turned down so far. I told him to keep pressing them on it. My 2013 PW is not going anywhere but the only way I would ever buy another PW is if it was offered with a manual trans.

I like my Hemi. For what I do, it's the best option. And with the price of diesel nowadays, I'm definitely happy to drive a gasser! But if I could've had a stick, that would have been first choice!

I'm personally fine with the hemi in my 2005 Power Wagon. This is the 345 Horse variant as well! It is a rev happy motor and was built that way. I have pulled trucks out of the mud and trees so heavy the nose of the truck was squatting down hahaa. This truck does fine for what it is

and I get about 14 on the highway still even with 165,000 miles.

Second hemi for me. Had two Cummins engines between them. My last Cummins was a lemon. Cost a small fortune to repair it. Engine dropped a valve. Ate a turbo. All that nice stuff. Hemi is cheap to repair or replace compared to the diesels. I don't care how hemi hungry this nwe power wagon is, I love this thing!!!!!

I loved my 2011 PW with the 5.7 Hemi and now I love my 2014 PW with the 6.4 Hemi even more! I tow my travel trailer quite a bit in the summer but you have to tow A LOT to make the 6.7 CTD worthwhile. Don't get me wrong, the 6.7 is a great engine I just don't need it.

When I bought my Wagon some of the guys were asking why I didn't buy a CUMMINS. Not worth it for me, I don't tow enough or put enough mileage on to make it worth while.
That and I hate OAKLEY sunglasses, flat brim hats, stacks and TAP OUT shirts.

The new issue of Off Road Adventures from 4WP has a 300 mile test of the new 1500 Eco-diesel in a crew cab 4x4. They got 26mpg in mixed driving. Seems like a very nice package if you don't need all the PW capability.

I'm with you, If I could change one thing on my PW is I wish it had a manual transmission.

Don't get me wrong here, I am perfectly happy with my 5.7 & its power (with the G56 anyways) as well. What i am NOT happy with is 8-10 mpg. That is just bullshit IMHO. I understand the whole weight, wind drag, big tires, low gears (higher numerically) thing. I really do. I just can not wrap my mind around why the Hellcat has more than 2x the hp but gets better mileage. Or around the GM's & Fords that put out 500+ hp & get 28 mpg. Would those engines get 8 mpg in my truck ? I think not. Even 15-17 mpg would be good (that would be a 50-100% + increase in mpg for me). Thats why diesels peak my interest.

I couldn't envision a scenario where I'd ever on purpose opt for another diesel motor again. The juice just wasn't worth the squeeze to me...

Yeah, I have always been baffled at the MPG that Chevy/GMC trucks and SUV's can get in comparison to Dodge. The new Yukon Denali's motor (6.2L with 420 horse and 460 torque) makes quite a bit more power than the 6.4 hemi yet gets 19-20 MPG quite easily. Thats in a heavy full size SUV. For some reason I think if the Hemi was magically transformed into that very same vehicle it would still get the same mileage the ram trucks do. What gives.

oke:
Lol, that's exactly what all my diesel owning friends asked me when I bought my Wagon. And that's exactly what I told them for the reason I bought it. Along with the fact that a 15k winch, lockers, skids, 4.56 gears, 2" lift and 33s from the factory is alot better sounding to me then 300 more lbs./ft of torque. And most of them do wear flat brimmed hats and have HUGE 12" stacks in the bed. Smh.

opps forgot no stacks either, not even a programmer. It is lifted a bit and has lockout hubs, hydraulic winch and OBA, that's about all.

I will admit I now have a set of black aftermarket Fuel rims, still in a 17" flavor though. Only have them because I got a screaming deal on them with 35" tires on them. Did keep the PW rims for later usage with a second set of of tires though.
