Could someone school me on the Maxi Care lifetime warranty? I am thinking about going for it but would like some input. We plan on keeping the wagon for a LONG time, like forever and want to make sure it lasts. 2011 PW bought new in march 2012 replaced my much loved and very well used 98.5 2500 lwb CTD 4x4. Any advice from the :winchmob: Is very much respected and appreciated.

We have the lifetime on both the truck and Jeep. Do some research on the prices, although you've lost the barganing advantage of buying the truck. I got the warranty included on the truck at "no cost" when I made my offer on the truck. It was part of the deal - include it or I walk. For the Jeep, we had already gotten a good price, one percent under dealer cost, so I dickered the warrenty down to $300.00 over dealer cost of the warranty, so that ended up adding a total of $2100.00 to the deal.

As far as the warranty itself, one major item can dang near pay for it. Both ours have a $100.00 deductable, and so far it's covered a towing bill for me when the tierod end broke. That's part of it - free towing or other road service.

With past vehicles the cost of the warranty has been well worth it. On our last two Toyotas, both had a window motor fail and at $600.00 for the motor alone, the warranty was really welcome. On our '98 Forerunner it covered a premature failure of the water pump, and that came out at $2300.00 in parts and labor.

I just purchased a 2010 PW this past Wednesday, July 25. It qualified for the lifetime warranty and I purchased the warranty with the vehicle. It's well worth it in my opinion. I plan on keeping this pickup for several years and have no doubt that it will pay for itself.

Thanks for the info. When I bought mine the dealer never told me about maxi care, I got the info from Chrysler in a mailer.

How much was the warranty, and what deductible did you get? Is there a mileage max?

And btw - welcome to the forum! Congrats on the new truck. :D

They probably tried to sell you their aftermarket warranty, because it's cheap, and they profit 3x more selling them.

While I do have the max care with the $100 deductible I have yet to use it.

I can say my dealer hates that I have it because it pays based on the same warranty labor rate as the factory 3-36,000. They also get no profit from any parts that are replaced as they are a direct swap broken for new (so they say). The dealer went so far as to lie and tell me I was wrong and the lifetime powetrain was the only thing covered for as long as I owned the truck and it was not the entire truck as OEM never offered such a thing. I ended up buying mine on line for $1400 and they were livid when they found out. They even said the dealer who sold it to me would need to do the repairs as they were not going to. I have since straightened them out with the help of the area factory rep.

According to the factory rep the reason they prefer to sell aftermarket policies and not OEM is that with aftermarket they get to charge full rate on parts and labor just as if it was me paying. The labor book would no longer be the factory labor times but a standard by one of the big maintenance data companies like Mitchel or ALL Data, who gives tons more labor time for any given task.

Also be aware that there is a limit and that limit is that the cost of any given repair can not exceed the Kelly blue book trade in value of the truck. You can demand an appraiser be used but you will need to initiate arbitration and pay half the appraisal cost. The outcome of that appraisal is binding on both parties.

Thanks,

I paid $2,800 for the warranty and it will cover the vehicle for as long as I have it w/ a $100 deductible. If I have it for 30 years and put 600,000 miles on it it is still covered. It also covers everthing except normal wear items like brakes, oil changes, wiper blades etc. If the sunroof breaks it is fixed for $100, if the engine blows up it is covered for $100, if the navigation system goes out it is covered, etc. etc. The warranty is through Chrysler so any dealership can do the repairs.

I normally am not big on warranties, but this one seems to be the cats meow.

Good warranty, especially a lifetime warranty. Did they have a $0 deductible option?

I've always purchased the maximum available warranty for all new vehicles I've ever bought, and I've always chosen the $0 version. Sometimes the service writer or tech may say it's a separate claim when you return it for something they didn't do right or didn't catch the first time, and charging you again. With a $0, it wouldn't matter. Just keep that in mind down the line if you have take it back multiple times for something.

I will tell you I had the chrysler extended warranty for 100K that is based on the max care, however they would not warranty the winch saying it was not part of the program. I know others have had better luck (I even argued with Chrysler at the time and they said "so sorry"). So it may cover everything on a regular 2500 but may not cover the PW parts.

If the winch or lockers ever break I will find out. I specifically asked the dealer when signing the paperwork if the lockers, winch, disconnecting sway bar were covered. I was told they are because they are factory items that come equipped on the vehicle.

And there was no other decuctible option, but that is fine because if anything ever major breaks I will be happy to pay just $100. If something minor breaks that is less than $100 I'll just pay for it out of pocket.

The winch is specifically excluded right in the contract, but all other systems are included!
