315/70/17's on 2014 PW - stock wheels - no rub :)

I just installed 315/70/17 tires on stock wheels and can report that there is no rubbing on my 2014 Power Wagon SLT. Haven't been offroad, yet, so I'll check everything as I go my next trip out...
Tires look great on this truck (should have come this way from the factory). They fill the wheel wells nicely.
Need to recalibrate speedo - off by almost 10% now
any recommendations on a recal unit?

Pics man Pics... I'm going to 35's myself here soon. As far as your speedo, us guys with the 2014's are kind of limited but Hypertech makes a speedo recal, and DiabloSport makes a programmer its the 1000x or something like that..

Awesome, what tires did you end up with?

I scooped up (5) Treadwright Guard Dog M/T's w/ Kedge grip off craigslist for $600... Brand-new, never been mounted... They are bead-to-bead remolds, and needed quite a bit of weight to balance, but they ride smoother than the stock Duratracs. they are Load range D (max cold inflation of 65psi) They are a tad noisier, but not bad for an M/T. I'm running them at 57psi cold front and 52psi cold rear without any TPMS lights... I couldn't pass up the deal, especially since I'm not sure what tires and/or size I ultimately want to run. I'll run these for a while and evaluate performance, mileage, etc... I kept the duratrac spare. It is the biggest tire that will fit under the truck in the stock location.
https://www.treadwright.com/individual- ... 70R17.00-D
The tires I removed have 4000 miles on them and will sell for more than I have in the 35's mounted and balanced...

I have been eyeing those tires for a while. That is a great deal. Keep us updated on the performance.

Thanks. A few questions:
1. Their site lists a 35x12.5x17 & a 315x70x17, which did you choose, is there much of a difference? It's a matter if aspect ratio I assume? Looks like the 12.5's run +15 PSI & +500lbs load rating, the widths are the same, rim size same, tread same, both are 34.7" tall, so what's the diff?
2. Is re-treading off-road tires common? I know semis use them all the time, first I've heard of a off-road retread. What's the service life on these?
3. What is bead-to-bead mean?
4. The max psi on the site is 50 psi, so are you running them hotter for the TPMS?

A friend of mine from work has been running the treadwright tires on his truck for over a year on the set he has on there now. Before that he ran a set for 2-3 years no problems. The only reason he has a second set is he got a lift and up'd the tire size. They look darn good on his truck

Looks great! I've been wondering if I can put 35s on my truck w/o a spacer kit.

These are not just retreads with a new cap, they are remolds that go from the bead all the way around to the other bead - probably use a used carcass that is incased in new sidewall and tread rubber...
4. The max psi on the site is 50 psi, so are you running them hotter for the TPMS?
Although their site says 50psi, My tires say 65psi on the sidewall, so I'mm going by that...

Interested in how you like them after time, i have been eyeballing those tires for some time now. I have read many reviews from other forums and also a couple magazine articles that reviewed them. You got a hell of a deal but after looking online it seems that by the time shipping and mounting and balancing is factored in might not be as big a deal and not to far off from some brand new tires.

Yeah, I was planning to get 285/75/17 Toyo AT II's, but for $600, I figured I'd give these a try... If I don't like them, I'll just sell them and go my original route...
Got my Speedometer re-calibrated, today thanks to Hypertech. I found and purchased Hypertech part# 752501 for $163 w/ free shipping, and after updating the unit via the internet, it worked flawlessly. I had to try a few different tire heights to get the speedo corrected according to my phone gps. I actually am using 33.5". The tires I have measure about 34-ish", but when I used those numbers, the speedo was over the correct speed...
I'm going offroading and camping this weekend, so I'll report back after having them in the dirt, and on a few hour road trip...

*UPDATE*
After about 500-1000 miles, I decided that the road noise, fuel mileage loss, and performance loss was too much for my truck that sees 99% onroad scenarios. The tires rode pretty smooth, but had too much "mud tire hum" for my tastes. The tires were HEAVY... The added weight and diameter cost me about 2 MPG's, mostly because the MDS couldn't function very well - engine would labor too much trying to turn the larger, heavier tires, so the MDS wouldn't even stay engaged at 60mph on flat ground... Maybe the fact that these were remolds made them heavier than a regular 315/70/17? It wasn't worth the gamble to me to buy a new set of 315's in an AT to find out...
I ended up installing a set of 285/75/17 Nitto Terra Grappler G2 AT's since the Toyo AT II's were on national backorder. Quiet, smooth, bigger than stock, aggressive enough for an AT, just the right compromise for me... The new tires are Load range E, so the TPMS system stays happy. I had to run the 315's on stock wheels at 50psi front and 40psi rear to ensure they would wear evenly. I run the new tires at 60 psi front, 55-60psi rear, and they seem to do just fine. My fuel mileage is better than stock, now, and I think that this is the happy place for my truck. These tires will do everything offroad that I'm willing to attempt just as well as the larger mud tires, but have the added benefit of a quiet, smooth ride, and good fuel mileage (for these trucks, anyways)...
I sold the (5) 315's with 500-1000 miles on them for $50 more than I paid.
The 315's looked better, but not THAT much better.
I'm getting about 15-ish mpg in town, and 18-ish on the highway. With the 315's, I was getting about 13 and 16...
To each, his own...

I was considering trying a set of the guard dogs but found a used set of Mickey Thompson MTs in the same size for a good price. They rub the control arms at full lock, thought they wouldn't with my leveling kit installed (2012). Maybe it's the beefy lugs. I think I'll go to the Toyo AT2s in the same size when these wear out. I have some of the same issues as you but the look and ability when needed will keep me with the 315/70/17s, if not a true 35...

I'm in the same boat. Put 35" Toyo R/T's on love the look love the tire, but after a 3500 mile road trip and not seeing above 11 mpg they are coming off and I'm going to a 285/75/17 as well.... Never expected to take a mileage hit quite that bad...

Are you guys recalibrating the speedometer with a programmer? I lost MPG until I did the recalibration to both correct the miles traveled and my shift points. My mileage went up not down after that not by just a little but it was nearly 2.5mpg on my Yokohama 315 (35") AT tires. I did however loose about .5mpg when I put on heavier Toyo AT 2 tires in a 35" an E rated tire.

No on the programmer. I tried the Diablo Sport and it fried my ECM. Now I'm gun shy. What year is your ride?

Mine is a 2009 and I used my Autoenginuity program to do it not a programmer. Yes the program is expensive but I needed it for side jobs.
I'm updated to 2011 and will do any PW member for free. Newer than 2011 I will need to purchase an update and would only charge for the update that I have to pay for to do it. To be honest if folks get a CEL light or Trans code and it is newer than 36 months then I never get to work on it and won't get paid if I look at it.

I have not reprogrammed yet... Will but haven't found the one yet... 99% of my driving is city... I was getting high 11's with stock tires and now getting low 10's with 35's... I'm not sure how much I'm off with the 35's but I do know I'm still going the same number of days before I fill up... I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the computer being off... I'm happy with the tires and will actually be going to 37's when a good lift is available for the 14... I will regear with 37's though as I don't think the 4:10's will suffice...

On mine I am 4 mph off... 70 mph=74mph. I would stay away from Diablo Sport. It fried my ECM and thank god my service guy is cool he warrantied it... At the dealership they are using the Hypertech Speedo 752501..

With 315/70/17 tires I am getting 11mpg in the city, and close to 15mpg on the highway. That is with the speedo recalibrated. Tires are Kelly Safari TSR.

I think the 285/75/17 are a better choice for the stock rim width. There 1.2" narrower than the 315/70's but you only loose 1/4" in ride height. I picked up 5 285/75/17 Toyo AT2 for $1265 delivered, from Tread Depot.
