Axle Lockers not working..

Let me just say this 05 power wagon I have, I've had more problems with it then all of my other vehicles combined. It's getting old. So I was about to go off on a trail today, put my lockers to front and rear and it took it forever to lock the axles. Whenever the rear ones were locked it would still blink "unlocked" sometimes like it was going back and forth between rear lockers and being unlocked, and i never felt any difference when my rear ones were locked. Then all of the sudden my front ones locked and my steering wheel turned all the way to the left and it took all my strength to stear it back forwards. I couldn't steer it either way and I was just praying i could unlock my truck. Within about another 5 minutes of driving in a straight line trying to get it to unlock it finally did. Anyone seem to know what this problem could be?

Have the locker magnets been cleaned when the diff oil was changed?

Since you are long out of warranty, hard wiring the lockers is the best solution. That's been well documented here.

Sounds like you got it pretty well bound up. Lockers will do that on firm terrain.

If the "locking parts" in the diff are not lined up perfectly when you turn the knob, it will not lock until there is some loss of traction that causes the tires on the axle to spin at different speeds, thus aligning the parts. This is normal. The limited slip quite often prevents this from happening quickly.

The locker magnet being clean, as Cactus said, allows a reliable signal to be sent to the electronics. If the magnet is caked with metal flakes, and the "locked" signal isn't strong, the electronics will engage/disengage, then possibly throw a trouble code by flashing the indicator lights. Hardwiring bypasses this phase and just applies power to them till they lock.

Both are causes for slow locking. One can be worked around.

Well when mine lockers wouldn't engage on the trails I took it off on the concrete real fast to see if it would engage there and that's when it pulled to the left. Would the concrete made it do that? This is my Dad's old truck that he handed down to me and I'm just trying to learn haha.

Yes, hard surfaces like that are very prone to causing binding with lockers. Something has to slip, you're lucky it's a PW, cause usually something breaks in that situation.

NEVER EVER RUN YOUR LOCKERS ON HARD PAVED ROADS. You will tear up your transfer case, diff, or other drive line components. Tires have to spin at different rates for the magnets to engage that clutch & gears in the diff.

Well shit, thanks bro. I still have a lot of learning left to do. Luckily I didn't have to learn the hard way there.

DO NOT HARDWIRE LOCKERS!!!!! if you can wait a little bit don't do it. I live in Tulsa and I have a 2005. I was having issues with my lockers also.( my issue was completely different) but I went to a man named Morgan and he used to own a 2010 PW. He has been making 4th gen locker bypass kits for these guys for a while now. If you can hold off for a bit he is making a 3rd gen kit. I have been helping him with making it. By helping I mean just letting him use my truck as a test dummy. But if you can hold off for a while he will have it up and running. Hard wiring your lockers takes away your factory buttons

I was talking to Morgan the other day and he said he was having a hell of a time getting the connectors to ship. They are coming from Hong Kong and apparently the company is very hard to deal with.... But the test model worked like a beauty after some tinkering. The guy is a genious when it comes to electronics. I can't wait to see what the final outcome is

Haha. Thanks guys. I'm getting close to having connectors ship never imagined it would be so difficult. I'm dealing with a guy named Paul, but I'm pretty sure that's not his real name. Lol
