Tire choice!!!!

I have almost 40k km on my hankooks. 37"x12.5/17. There is 14/32s tread left on 2 and 12.5/32s on the others. I have 2 choices I've narrowed it down to. Now before u say that there is still a lot of tread, I know. But I can get a fair amount selling them with half tread. So. Here is my debate.
New hankook dynapro mt studded. New 21/32 tread depth and I would sipe a little for winter
Cooper ST MAXX studded 18.5/32 tread and has sipes. I am ordering either of these two in 2 weeks.
The hankook is a softer rubber compound but has not chipped out on the gravel at all. And I drive a ton of gravel roads
I've looked at all the other choices for tires and this is my direction. Thoughts?

I liked the Yokohama AT2 that I had that were 35". They were light (even compared to the OEM BFG tire) and had excellent wet and dry road traction. They did not chunk in the loose rocks if you use judicious throttle input. I assume wet snow will work well too. They are available in a 37" tire and because they are light weight when compared to all other 37" tire options (= faster acceleration better braking). If I go to a 37" tire I will likely go this route.

Azracer i have seen those tires and also the falken wild peak. They just arnt aggressive enough for me. Weight really isn't a factor for me as far as acceleration and braking hasnt been an issue at all.

The tread looks more open on the 37" tire. As far as aggressive performance I can't really say as I have not used the 37" version. I'm sure others who use the 37" version will chime in. I know that when I aired down mine they were amazing in sand.

Its hard to find reviews on the coopers but the few guys ive seen running them love them. They come from toyo mts and the like and said these are a big upgrade for someone who sees a variation in terrain, id stay away from falken, once 1/2 tread they look like steer tires on a big rig abd lose ALL siping. The yokes are deceiving, pics definitely dont do them justice. If possible id sit and wait a tiny bit or dig through the web. There seems to be a few new tires hitting the market soon, bfg, Toyo, nitto. They all have hybrids which seem to be the tire of desire for all of us. I know I wish I could drop these mts and get something different!

I'm rolling on the 37's Yoko's and love them. The tread is plenty open enough for me and they've been great in everything I've put them through so far, obviously cake up with gummy red clay but a snap of the throttle and they clean right out. Best of all, the ride is smmmooooootttthhhhh and quiet

I'll go snap a picture in a little showing the tread size so you'll know...

I love my Cooper ST MAXX. We have about 20,000 miles on them and they still look great.

I'm looking at the cooper ST's in 35" right now. Tire shop said they discontinued them cause "they were lasting too long"! We'll see. A bit more aggressive than I'd prefer but $1350 for 4 mount, balance, align 3 yr coverage plan and lifetime rotations doesn't sound bad

I dont know about lasting too long lol. But a trade off for high mileage tires is usually hard rubber with less traction. Always a trade off

What lift/wheel offset are you guys with 37" tire running? Just curious as I had 315x70x17 tires on my 2010 Power Wagon and they rubbed at full lock.

2010, no lift, stock wheels and Thuren offset control arms.

Factory wheels cause the least issues with 35" + tires. Also better on the steering system and driveline. Also some tires have a wider footprint then others so they will rub the control arms or sway bar a bit. But if you don't mind a little rubbing its a non issue. Got to remember it's not supposed to turn like a car. Drive it like a formula 1 Bus and it will turn more sharply than u ever need without rubbing. Good option though is replacing control arms. You don't have to though.

Neal,
It's hard to beat those Hankooks in the mud and the sidewalls are strong enough for the weight of the Diesel. My recommendation would be another set of those or a set of siped Toyo M/T's.

If I were to try another MT, with would be the Hankooks, that was my second pick for 37's.

You are right as far as how tough they are. And I can attest to the beating they take daily. I think this was more of a thread to convince me not to go with the hankooks again as that was my original plan. And now it seems like it will stay that way. I really wanted to hear if the st Max was that much better but it doesn't seem that way. An ive searched for hours online. The hankooks have never let me down. Lets get a new set.

Do these Cooper Discoverer STT's come in a 37" ? Seems like a worthy tire. Talking myself into a set as we speak!
