Problems with fueling up, solved!!!

Post by bajaben48 » Mon Jul 21, 2014 6:49 pm

So I have been having a hard time filling up for about 6 months now. Every time I start pumping it immediately kicks off as if I am topped off. For the longest time I couldn't figure it out. I knew I was low on fuel but it just wasn't filling up. So I started using just my auxiliary tank to fuel up. Fill the aux tank and then slowly transfer to main tank. Its not a big deal just annoying.
Well I was doing some thinking and figured it out. Basic physics really, as fuel goes in the air has to go out. The air wasnt escaping so pressure would build up and the fuel would stop flowing in at a decent rate. Kinda like when you pour out milk to fast and it gurgles and glubbs out, but in reverse. Well I did some research and was able to find the line that allows the air to "escape" via the evap canister located in front of the fuel tank. I crawl under the truck and low and behold the line is kinked. It seemed like the line was about a foot to long. So I cut it down to length and reinstalled it. I have a full tank right now so I dont if this was the fix but I am 99% sure. What I think happened was, when I got my trans replaced the reinstalled a line that was to long, I suspect this because it started about the time the transmission was replaced. Just a little fyi for anyone that it may help. Pictures of course.

There was a TSB for this not a recall meaning you have to ask for it to be fixed, and you must still be under warranty for it to be fixed for free.

Well the problem I would face with that tsb is that I drilled and welded hose barb adapters in the filler neck for my aux tank.

Hmmmm I will have to bring my truck in for that tsb if it's applicable to Canadians but first I will look at the avap hoses because my 012 is a pain to refuel I always have to arch the pump up and with a 6" lift and 37's this means both hands pushing the gun of the pump up lol I look like a really insecure refueling person fresh off the boat
