FRONT LICENSE PLATE MOD

This was a monumental mod...very complicated and expensive .. I never liked the stock license plate mounting setup...big plastic thing, sticking out, and low, just waiting to get crushed. So I moved it. I had a nice 8" aluminum hinge in the junk drawer. Made a metal hook from some thick wire to hold it up. I didn't drill the bumper or plastic so it can go back to stock if needed.

Another nail in the coffin for California! No front license plate required here in AZ ... Socialism vs Liberty!

I just took mine off and put it under the passenger seat. Ticket is a $10 fixit deal, but is a nuisance. Last time I had a "discussion" with the highway patrol, I convinced them that the plate interferes with my winch and I forgot to put it back on after winching. Yea, that's the story....

That is a good idea, I do not like how far my plate hangs down as well.

I don't want to turn this in a political thread, but Socialism vs. Liberty because California requires a front plate? I would love to hear an explanation as it is a bit of a stretch. Arizona still requires vehicle registration, a drivers license, insurance just like California and every other state. Whether the state requires a front plate is a moot point.

The front license plate, among many other things, is just "another nail in the coffin" ... Don't get me wrong, California is a beautiful state with a lot of liberty minded individuals, but let's be honest ... It's unfortunately being brought down by socialistic ideals. Nevertheless, my comment was meant to be a quick poke. By no means do I want this to turn into a political discussion hijacking the thread. All in good fun ... every state has its issues! Arizona has its issues too, but I'll live in the red over the blue any day ... I grew up in Michigan ... I have some experience ... Just look at Detroit ... Case in point ... That's where all Blue states are heading unfortunately.

It doesn't bother me if the thread wanders-that's one of the reasons we deserted DodgeTalk...TOO many rules...I love the town I live in here in CA, but I sure hate the laws. And I keep my F. lic. plate on so the cops don't have an excuse to pull me over.

Yeah, growing up in Michigan watching liberals and unions destroy the state it sure left me with a sour taste. After moving to Arizona, experiencing "right to work", other such liberty minded ideals (gun rights included) and pursuing a degree in public administration, my eyes were opened to the true meaning of our constitution, the true role of government, and the difference between crony capitalism and true capitalism. I am kind of a mixed bag thought ... socially liberal, but economically and "role of government" conservative ... I guess I fit the mold of a libertarian ... rant over! Sorry guys ... No offense intended

I run a Caterpillar novelty plate on the front of mine in MO, IA and IL. Haven't had an issue yet but it does state in the laws for all 3 states that you have to have one on front and rear at all times. I asked the local highway patrol and they said you are supposed to have both on but they normally don't make much of a fuss about it.

I'm in Mo. And havent had a front plate on my jeep since about 2005. Don't want to drill holes in my bumper so I have front plate in my door pocket. Only been 3 weeks but haven't had any stops.

I haven't had my plate on for almost 9 yrs , never did put it on from day one. I keep it in the pouch on the back of the passenger seat along with the 2 screws and a nut driver, in case I ever do get stopped. Never have been stopped. Just like Ducky's Dad, I'll say I just used the winch the other day and offer to put it back on right there.

Everybody thinks that California is some kind of socialist police state, to the contrary, when it comes motor vehicles you can get away with almost anything. We've got some of the loudest motorcycles and ridiculously modded trucks and cars clogging the highways along with a gazillion POS vehicles that should have been scrapped years ago. Other than a smog check every other year, there are no vehicle inspections what so ever.

Love Cali, been stationed there for 4 yrs, just couldn't ever live there again---I think that stigma comes a lot less from car regulations, and a lot more from: Gun laws, taxes, and rampant liberalism that defies logic and reason.

^ ... I totally agree. I've been lucky enough to have lived here during CA's best times, San Jose in the '50s & '60s was agricultural before it became Silicon Valley. Santa Cruz used to be a small beach town before UCSC opened up on the hill that we call "commie central", and has now become a bedroom community to Silicon Valley. To be totally honest, if I couldn't live in Santa Cruz (with all it's faults) now, or up in the Sierras, I'd leave in a heartbeat.

Since Tx is strict on the front LP, when I put my aftermarket bumper on, I put a roller fair lead on it too, since it was quite a bit of distance from the winch to the bumper. I ordered a fair lead clip on kit for my front license plate. (It's basically mag lite clips.) it just snaps on the fair lead rollers, and when I need to use the winch, I just pop the LP off. Works well and is convenient.

Good idea!Ohio is strict on the front plate too. I was driving back from Michigan after deer hunting, and I snaged the plate in the woods trying to recover a deer in a ravine, and it got bent-up pretty good, so I unscrewed it and put it in the back seat. I forgot to reattch it on the way home, and got pulled over by a Statie about 5-10 miles south of the border just past Toledo. He let me go after I showed him the nice deer in back! :D

My Grandpa had a farm in San Jose, and later in life moved to Aptos, where I spent many summers body surfing down by the cement boat...

When we were young and dumb, we used to body surf The Wedge in Newport. Can't do that in Texas or Ohio.

Wedge YouTube vid. Pussies now are riding body boards. When it's up, that break can dump you right onto the sand. In high school, one of the guys broke his hip there.

Pics from the L.A. Times. This is one reason some of us are willing to put up with the California crap, at least for a while.
