Front locker
I have a 05 and the rear diff locks in but the front just flashes ? Anyone know where I should start?
Re: Front locker
There are some tips in the FAQ/Mods please read first sticky at top of page.
Change fluid & clean magnet
CAREFULLY remove the smartbar plug & check for corrosion &/or use dielectric grease in the contacts
CAREFULLY remove front locker plug & check for corrosion &/or use dielectric grease in the contacts
Check all the wiring for bare spots/shorts
Try doing s-turns, slowly, with no power/torque to the wheels. Mine takes forever to lock in under torque/load/heavy right foot.

Re: Front locker
I would go with the S turns and back and forth to get the front to engage. Mine does the same thing. Back engages quickly but the front takes a while and some turning and such to get it to engage. Then just as I'm about to give up....
it engages. And for what it's worth....most of the time I can feel that the lockers are engaged when the light hasn't gone solid yet. I'm not going to disect that too much as I've never had any locker issues (knock on wood)

The front locker in my truck has actually been acting up a little bit recently, so I took it out on a gravel road and locked/unlocked the axles about 50 times in a row to see if it helped. One odd thing I discovered with my truck - while the rear locker will lock when going forward or backward, the front locker will *only* engage when backing up. At first I thought it was just coincidence, but after a few dozen times in a row I noticed a pattern. I have no explanation for it, but it might be worth trying for other folks having issues.
On another note, why are the lockers labeled "FR" and "RR" on the switch? I can understand F and R, but I'm not sure what the second R is for...though I'm sure it's something obvious I can't think of right now. I apologize for the weird off-topic thought...I'm on painkillers right now, and my brain is working a bit differently than normal.

Re: Front locker
LKelly- I have a 2012 so mine might be different but mine says "Rear Lock" and "Front/Rear Lock. " Maybe the FR is for Front/Rear lock?

On the '05s, the rear locker is labeled "RR" and the label for when both is locked is "FR/RR"...which would seem to imply that the front by itself is "FR". It sounds like the labels made more sense by 2012...maybe a bunch of folks asked the same question.

I looked in the manual, and there's no explanation of the abbreviations used...I mean, I suppose "FR" can be for "FRont" and "RR" for "ReaR" but that seems like an odd way to do it. Why not just use "F" and "R"? Perhaps the designers were getting paid by the letter.
