2013 Power Wagon programmers???

Post by TrueBlue13PW » Sun Jan 12, 2014 7:46 pm

Looking at maybe getting a programmer sometime in the future. I know there is the bully dog and the diablo. Myoung I know you have had both what do you like about each? I have had good luck with hyper tech on my diesels in the past just seen this interceptor from them today. Would like everyones thoughts on these. I would like the ability to change the tpms parameters which the interceptor won't do.

Thanks in advance to everyone for the advice.

I have the Bullydog on my 2011 and love it. Seemed to bring the power back to stock feeling after I put 35" tires on. As for the TPMS the Bullydog only let me turn it on or off, not adjust the settings. So I just turned it off. And I calibrated my speedo so that it reads correct with the larger tires.

Does the bully dog have the 87 and 93 octane tunes? If so which tune are you running?

I was going to post the same question sometime about the same thing. I'm looking at getting either the Bully Dog or the Diablo for my '12 and I'm leaning toward the Bully for the moment just for the added features that the Diablo doesn't have. Or is the Diablo worth the extra $$ just for the better tuning? Do they have the same features as the Bully Dog? From what I read on the site it doesn't.

I've had both and was happy with both. They both added noticeable power but the Diablo is a little better with custom tuning. I like that you can do some custom trans tuning with your CRM tuner, Hemifever in my case. He's been great to work with. The Diablo doesn't allow adjustments of the TPMS system while Bully Dog does. They say it's in the works but won't give an ETA. I think you'd be happy with either one.

I am running the 93 tune. Work pays for most of my gas so putting in premium is no problem for me. :D

I like the tune, very nice throttle response.

Yes sir, work paying for most of my fuel makes owning a gas guzzling Power Wagon pretty much a no brainer for me. Haha!

From what I understand, (from another thread on the topic of larger tires) if I want to put 35's on my 4G I'd have to look aftermarket for a recalibration of the PCM/TCM for tires above 33. I'd also be looking for some power gains as well, but I appreciate everyone's feedback on this thread. It let's me know what direction to head when the time comes.

Well I decided to bite the bullet and get the DiabloSport Trinity instead of the Bully Dog after looking at everything it can do compared to the Bully. The Bully has more creature comfort settings (I assume from their site, maybe it doesn't) but the Trinity has way more actual vehicle tuning and features. I'll be sure to post what I think of it, my wagon is finally in the shop being fixed after that accident I had awhile back so I won't have it back until the middle of next week. I got lucky and they put a new tailgate on and re-painted the ENITRE bed because it was scratched from where the bumper got pushed into it. No more scratches anywhere! WAHOOO! :excited:

I agree, what ever you go with, get with hemifever as he is awesome to work with and provides excellent service.

I went with the SCT tuner, which does not provide to much other than loading the specific program you want which is all I want.

Good luck

Well, programmer is kind of hit or miss right now. It worked fine when I first plugged it in, no issues. Then when I started playing with the gauges trying to make a custom page layout it froze up. Had to un-plug it from the OBD2 port to restart it. Tried messing with them again and it did the same thing. Restarted it again and tried choosing a preset one and say screw it and suddenly all the preset ones where gone except for 1, and there was 10 or so to start with, no idea where they went. Also had it freeze once when I was trying to change the ECT from Celsius to Fahrenheit. Decided to say screw it and left it alone. Went online and dozens of people are having the exact same issues and there is no fix as of right now. You have to un-install the tune and return it to stock, hook it up to your computer, call DiabloSport and have them install an earlier crom version so that it will actually works. I don't know about anyone else but this is a giant PITA for a simple programmer. I'm going to try and do that fix to get it to work but if gives me any fits after that I'm returning it and getting the Bully Dog.

Thanks for the update. I would be pretty upset as well if I was in your shoes. I've had an H&S tuner on my 2012 CTD for 2 years and it's been flawless. I think when it comes time to get a programmer for the PW I am leaning towards Bully Dog. I wish H&S would make one for the gas burners but I understand them staying with Diesel only.

Also forgot to mention that it drains my battery if I leave it plugged in. Not completely dead, but you can tell it's lost juice just from it taking a little longer to crank over. There is a sleep timer but it doesn't matter where I set it, it stills does the same thing. And also it reduces the range of your remote door locks and remote start to about 20' due to the interference with the vehicle electronics. Both of these have been mentioned on Diablo Sports forums and they either say they are working on it or nobody says anything. Pretty horrible customer service over there if you ask me. Both of those in combination with the freezing issue has me right on the verge of returning it and getting the Bully.

I wouldn't rule out Diablo all together. I had the Trinity for a short time and wasn't impressed with it at all. It's big and bulky and looked like crap when I had it mounted in the truck. I ultimately sold it because Diablo was dragging their feet on the 2500s. I now have an inTune on the truck and the Jeep and I'm impressed. The little handheld tuner works great and once you're tuned, just pull it off and store it somewhere in the vehicle. No chance of draining your battery with this one. I've had zero problems with either one of my tuners.

Myyoung, what kind of features does the "intune" have. I like the idea of loding the program and then unplugging the unit. I dont like to have things in my dash/ windshield.

The intune will adjust tire size, raise shift points, rev limit, and speed limiter. Pretty much the same stuff except the crap like adjusting light time delays, which can be done through the EVIC. Kind of a pointless list of "features." What the Diablo doesn't do yet is adjust or disable the TPMS. It's coming "soon" but we just don't know when "soon" is...

And just so we're clear, all of the tuners can be removed after tuning, including the Diablo Trinity and BullyDog GT. Once the tune is loaded, the tuner is just used for the display only.

I looked at the bully dog and I like what I see but for 5 bills and some change....thats hard to justify.

Check autoanything.com

I found them cheaper and also heard that if you "chat with a representative" they can discount even further. Thats the route I'll be going.

Also check out Moes Performance. He might not be the cheapest, but his customer service is outstanding. He also sells the Diablo tuners with Hemifever tuning.

If you don't want anything in your dash then I would definitely go with a regular hand held tuner. I only want the tuner with a screen that you mount on the windshield to have real time info that I can see. I ordered mine from 4 Wheel Parts, the Trinity was the same price as everywhere else, but the Bully is about $100 less than what it is on their site.

A little update on this Trinity. It eventually did work after 2 more updates that took about 2-4 weeks to wait for after I posted that original rant. Everything seems be working perfect and I am starting to really like it for all the gauge pages you can make and personalize to monitor while you're driving along with the parameters you can adjust (no TPMS yet...). Also like the drag strip tool to play with and the code scanner along with it being a good high res. screen and also being touch screen. The sleep mode did get fixed with the update so my battery no longer gets drained after sitting over night, and my key fob also seems to be working up to ~100' away now with the tuner plugged in still, so that's good enough for me to start it up from inside the house during the winter.

So overall I am very happy with the purchase after all the BS I had to go through waiting for updates and everything right after I bought it. I eventually plan on getting a Hemifever tune and it should be about everything I want out of a tuner as long as Diablo keeps making good updates with other cool little features like the TPMS or the seat belt alarm. So I'd either recommend the Diablo or the Bully after every thing is said and done.

I ordered a Diablo Intune from Moes Performance with the Hemifever tune to boot. I can honestly say my truck has never been this responsive. Sean at Hemifever checked my log data on Saturday and helped get it dialed in via email. Real easy. At the moment if I punch it from a dead stop it will just light up the 37" Yoko's I just put on through first gear and bark hitting second...(granted I have nothing in the bed, getting a topper this week) He wanted me to get a 0-75 pull at WOT and I had to ease into it and roll into full throttle at about 20mph or it would spin. My speedometer is about 1.5 mph slow according to my GPS at 75mph. I am super happy with it and currently running the 93 tune and picked up 2.5-3mpg. Once this tank is out, I am going to try the "MPG Saver 87" tune to see what it does. Just picking up the couple extra mpg's, it'll pay for itself in a couple of months.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.
