Just wrecked my 2006, need some help

I just did a nice 360 on 17 west in New York heading to Fort Drum from the city. Luckily, I was going slower than 55 and the airbags did not deploy. I ended up in a ditch, and if it weren't for 2 flat tires I would have put it in 4WD and walked the truck out. Thankfully the cop on scene was awesome, my girlfriend was following me and saw me spin on the highway, and he really helped calm her down. I'll be writing a letter to his supervisor to thank him. I'm really hoping USAA doesn't total the truck, the only damage that worries me is the crease behind the driver side rear door. The 2014s look nice, but I don't want to give up my manual transmission. If USAA does total the truck, they'll want the price of comparable 2006 PWs with 100,000 miles with a manual for sale in the US, otherwise it looks like I'll get the black book value of 13,800. I know the truck is worth more than that. Airbags did not deploy, driveline is solid, and the drivers side is the only torn up side. The officer said that a lighter vehicle would have flipped. I don't want to lose my truck, if you could get me comparable prices of my truck that would help me a ton.

We drive tanks. I was amazed at this truck tonight.

Sucks to hear that!!! Any wreck that you can walk away from, is a good thing!! Truck can always be replaced.

But it still sucks!!

If it's only the door and cab corner that are damaged,I don't think it'll get totaled.
Depending on your insurance company, they won't total it unless the damage goes over 50% to 80% of book value.
I had similar damage to my previous truck(an '05)and it came out to about $3500(in 2006)They replaced the rear door, repaired the cab corner, repaired the bed side, and blended the paint on the front door.

It doesn't look too bad from that angle - a new door and cab corner will do it. A good body shop will take care of that for under 5K.

KBB isn't the end all to dealing with the insurance company. Get as much info as you can from local adds for comparable PW in your surrounding area.

I also get pricing from all the guides - NADA clean retail is $19,075.00

CARS.com national search comes up with the following:

Oh man...that's horrible, glad to here you're good though. God forbid they total it...buy it back & fix it yourself locally. Here or any Dodge truck forum I'm sure can set you up with someone skilled. Good luck Sir.

Sucks about your truck, but to me it doesn't look too bad. I did sort of the same thing only worse to my 02 Ram 5 years ago, and according to insurance there was $14,000 worth of damage to my truck (they assumed would be replacing axle, straightening frame, different cab, different doors, etc.) and needless to say they totaled it on me. To be fair though, there is a hell of a lot of damage to the cab that doesn't really appear in the pic. I bought the truck back and did a little rough body work, put a new box on it and still drive it to this day! If they total it out and you can get it back cheap, just do like I did. My insurance also didn't brand my truck, so it still has a clean title.

I've had USAA for 26 years..there great..tell them what you want...If that person doesn't want to fix your wagon..go up the chain of command at USAA, some one will give you what you want ! :patriot:

I'm glad to hear you're ok and walked away from it.

From the looks, I also don't think it will get totaled. But I'm not an insurance guy to know.

Whatever happens, glad you're ok! Good luck with the truck!

Thanks for the replies guys. I had no idea this truck would hold value so well, I thought I'd be lucky to get $16000 for it if they do end up totaling the truck. The body shop has the truck in now, but it'll be Tuesday before they can look at it. I'm still crossing my fingers that everything works out well. Thankfully I was able to borrow a car from family, otherwise rental expenses would be huge for me. I expected this process to go a whole lot faster. Now I'm just stuck waiting.

Looking back I'm still surprised at how little damage there is compared to what could have been.

I was just past exit 100 headed west on 17 when I hit the ice.

Drum has improved a lot in the past ten years, but the job market for spouses is terrible right now.

Well, after about 10 weeks of waiting the truck should be done next weekend. Unfortunately I'm going to be locked down for the next two weeks for a military course. On the upside, Sears got me a pretty decent military discount on some Cooper STTs and I've saved enough money in gas borrowing other vehicles that I'm looking at throwing a cam in the truck when I get it back. I've got a DOR steering box brace and dt profab swaybar endlinks waiting to go on when I get the truck back.

And thankfully I've had several good friends offer me their vehicles to drive while I'm waiting on the truck. Without them I'd be swamped in rental costs.

I got a DOR brace also but haven't installed it yet. Glad to hear you almost have your truck back.
