I have searched for this and can't find it. Awhile ago I heard on this forum the rear diff fluid is different than a standard 2500 ram. Dealer says no. Anybody know about this or can get me link to topic?
Thanks Scott

A lot of rear diff fluid comes with a limited slip additive...its been a while since I changed mine and someone can back me up on this but I'm almost 100% positive the manual specifically says NOT to use a limited slip additive. I just went with royal purple and all seems well.

Limited slip additive, or friction modifier, is not required in a helical limited slip setup in the diff of an AAM axle with elockers. Not required is not saying prevent from using, it simply means that having it in there won't hurt anything. Now if you have a diff that uses a clutch pack type of limited slip then not having a limited slip additive when required to, can cause premature wear of the unit and/or excessive heat buildup.

Dead bang on answer!
I looked it up and that is text book. Also, most of the best synthetics have the friction modifier in them. It will not hurt you if it is there. Just choose the oil you like and you are good to go.

I have Mobil One in my diffs. I can't remember if it has the additive or not, but as Pit said, it doesn't matter.

I have Mobil1 with the LS in it. Doesn't hurt.
