Engine idling too low?

Hello all, I'm glad I found the Power Wagon registry! This is quite a site. I have a question about my power wagon which I just bought recently. It's an 06 with a 6 speed manual transmission. When the engine is up to operating temperature, it idles at about 600 rpms, which seems (and sounds) low. The idle quality seems fine and it never stalls, I've just never seen a v8 auto engine that idles at 600 rpms. I hooked it up to my laptop and checked for any codes but it showed none whatsoever. Any thoughts?

Your clue is the manual trans. No load in neutral or with clutch in, so idle can be a tad lower and save a tiny bit of fuel.

That rpm sounds right on. I played with lowering and raising it with Diablo and honestly found the factory idle about the most pleasant.
Also, welcome to the forum!

That would be my guess, as well. I know the idle changes when I shift my auto from Park or Neutral to a gear.

600 is the norm. I have mine set at 900 with my Diablo.
Welcome to the best PW site out there. Tell us a little about yourself and what state you're in.
We're having a big get together next month in PA.

Thanks for the responses!
Well, I live in Minnesota. I'm 24 years old and I work as an Ag diesel mechanic. I was shopping around for pickups back in March and I found my power wagon on the internet. At the moment it only has 18,000 miles on it. I plan on using it primarily to pull my boat around. I like to fish in private lakes that don't see a lot of fishing pressure so I frequently find myself having to unload the boat on rough, poorly maintained landings. In fact, I know of several lakes which I would like to try that have no landing at all so I would need to back the boat into the water right off of the road. I figured a power wagon would be tailor-made for this application.

My stock tune 07 automatic idles at 600 once warmed up or 500 with the A/C on so you are good.
